I graduated from high school in 1965 and couldn't afford Fender products back then. 12 days after graduation I enlisted in the Navy. I now own my second 65 TRRI and a DRRI (plus some modern Mustang amps). But I was just wondering what the MSRP was on the original 65 Twin Reverb and Deluxe Reverb. Hm-m-m. Anybody know

This is a '67 price list I think, if that helps.

Edit: I'm not 100% sure that's '67. From what I know Fender started making SS in 1966 and quit in 1971.

These are the prices in 1967 although this list may predate that by perhaps a year.

In May of 1968 when the Dual Showman Reverb was introduced, the head had a list price of $505.00 and the companion speaker enclosure cost $495.00 (IOW, a grand for a matched set). By comparison, the Twin Reverb's MSRP was still $499.50 which I thought was pretty inane since that same amplifier less the TR's pair of 12-inch speakers cost five bucks more.

You pay $600 for a Twin reverb back in 1967 , this money is like $4000 today .

Vintage amp on the market are not so expensive from this point of view.

That's right.

And why anyone would choose to flush several hundred dollars down the drain every few years on a brand new "Hiss-Master" or "Fizz-o-Sonic" because they're designed and built to self-destruct defies logic.

That goes with a lot of things. I have my Great Grandfather's 1902 Elgin 22 jewel Pocket Watch. It was part of my Dad's watch collection he gave me years ago. That Elgin is a champ. I've only had to have it oiled once. Keeps time perfectly. No batteries needed. My youngest son wears my Grandfather's 1965 Bulova Accutron Railroad Grade wrist watch. It only needed a battery and cleaning and it was off and running. He also has his 1950's Hamilton RR-grade Pocket Watch. (My grandfather was an engineer on the Erie Lackawanna Railroad and was required to have Railroad grade watches) You just can't beat timeless design and quality. And talk about conversation starters. :D

In 30+ years my Rolex hasn't needed a thing.

And I've got a couple of GI-issue Hamilton's from WWII that my Dad gave me -- both still keep excellent time.

Is that a Railroad watch? Those are awesomely awesome time pieces! :D

My Dad had a big collection of daily-used Snap-On tools that I inherited. The ratchet & torque wrenches work perfectly. Even with the chrome surface worn off. I can't say that about many new tools, these days.

S-K Wayne made some good tools, in the day, too.

I don't think that Elgin is a RR grade. Its the proper size and certainly keeps perfect time, but I was thinking they had to be identified as such.

Buy quality well made stuff and it will last forever. (and take good care of it)

And like you guys said…. vintage tools are another great thing to keep. When I cleared out my parents house this past year…. Dad's tools came here. As did his fishing gear.

Black-faced with luminous numbers and hands? Wyler made some during the War and they were quite popular among the returning GI's afterwards.

Indeed, the very ones. One has a leather band that incredibly has survived nearly seventy years intact. The other has what looks to be a khaki twill band. It's a little frayed but still serviceable. Both have radium-painted numerals and hands -- I don't dare wear them through airport-screening equipment.

Yeah they sure don't make em like they used...unfortunately that goes for just about everything made today. The US used to build things to last and that was the reason everybody wanted that "Made in the USA" label on things. That is something we and Fender needs to get back to...more so with their amps than their guitars.

+1000

If present trends continue I predict a less-than-rosy future on the horizon.

For all manufactured goods built in this country.
