I am thinking of buying one of these VM Band-Master heads to run it with my Fender 212 cabs.

I was surprised to find everywhere that they have been with drawn from sale. Is there something wrong with these amps that I should know about before purchasing one here in Australia.

My Fender suppliers have advised that I can still get the head here for around A$1099 but that the VM212 cab are no longer made.

Why have these amps been withdrawn from sale?

Despite having "Vintage Modified" in the name, they are not "Vintage" amps.

+1

Nor did they bear any relationship whatsoever to a real Bandmaster -- stock or "modified".

Better to spend your money on a Deluxe Reverb head or an original Bandmaster.

That's why I mentioned the Deluxe Reverb head.

I'd look for a SF Bandmaster head. I tried a vintage molested when they first came out and wasn't impressed in the least. I had a 74 Bandmaster and the VM wasn't even close. It was a serious dissappointment. I can never understand why Fender constantly has to "improve" amps that don't need to be improved. I really regret selling that Bandmaster.

I have three of them (two '68s, one '66) and they're great tone platforms.

You can pick up a SF Bandmaster head from around $600-850. For myself, it would be
worth the extra money.

Mine were all bought for $500 or less -- seems like the secret is now out about the vintage Bandmasters as prices have been climbing of late.
