I have a 64 Princeton Amp and it has an female plug on the back for a "Vibrato Pedal"
I have looked and I've seen two different types one which is a single RCA Male type end on a one switch floor switch, and another which has two RCA Male type ends with 2 floor switches. My question might seem obvious which one goes with the Amp I own. I'm guessing the single floor switch type. Also I read something about the tubes having some connection as to if it will work or not?? Not sure about this. I still have the original tubes which still work in a box and a number of years ago a friend told me to replace them with Super Tubes? Not sure what that was suppose to do but I couldn't tell much difference but I kept them in anyway. So my questions are #1 what type of switch, #2 do I need to put the original tubes back in the amp to make the Vibrato work, and #3 anyone know where I might find one of these switches. Can I get an aftermarket one or do I need an original Fender Switch from that year. Thank You AL Maynard

You need the single-button footswitch with an RCA plug on the end of the cable to switch the tremolo off. On these amps, the circuit was designed to be always on. The effect requires *a* tube of the correct type in each of the amp's sockets, but not necessarily the original bottles you have stored in a box.

+1...and here is a good source for one, although this is a new one. I have a 64 Princeton as well and it has the original footswitch and except for the color of the footswitch and wire this link below is identical.

Technically speaking, there are two distinct models of 1964 Princeton amp. Those made up until the summer of that year were still the 6G2 circuit, albeit in blackface guise. As such, many of them may be seen with the pre-64 brown footswitch (usually purchased by the amp's original owner at the same time he bought the amp). The black single-button switch was introduced in late 1963 though the brown switch continued to be supplied until the stocks were eventually exhausted. Thus a non-verb Princeton from '64 could swing either way as regards to footswitch color.

Mine came with it's original footswitch and it is brown with brown chord and the amp is a December of 64 (NL) so they hadn't run out until at least then or this one came off the very back of the rack!

Indeed!

As with most things "Fender" there are often periods of overlap when new or updated products were introduced to replace older equipment. Sorta like "Uncle Sam".

Might help if the OP posted a photo of which 64 style amp he has or at least tell us which version, either way though the footswitch is the same with the exception of color.

As well, we could all stand our daily fix of amp porn.

b]Hi you masters of Fender Princeton amps[/b], I should have enclosed these photo's before or when I posted this request. I now believe that this Princeton amp was made in 1965 not 1964 which I originally posted. I have enclosed 3 photo's one of the amp the second of the tube layout and the last the back of the amp. I hope this helps to identify what switch I need for the Vibrato function. Please let me know where I might be able to find one of these switches, other than the OEM one from Fender. Thank you so much you are surely a knowledgeable group of musicians. Thanks

AL Maynard
Sorry I'm having trouble trying to post the photo's. The photo of the amp has a black box with a silver grill, The other photo of the tube layout has the following tubes from Left to right:(Biggest)GZ34, 6V6 GT, 6V6 GT, 12AX7, 7025 On the top of the Label it says "PRINCETON-AMP AA964" Production #4 On the lower Right hand corner is printed in Green "OL" not sure what these mean but maybe someone knows
The Back of the amp GROUND, Fuse, On/OFF, Speaker, LINE OUT, VIBRATO.
Maybe I'll figure out how to add photos to these postings........Thanks Again AL

"Green OL".

Sounds like December of 1966 to me.

Got any EIA codes from the trannies available?

Regardless, the amp is a blackface AA964. The standard footswitch would've been the black-enameled, single-button type with an RCA phono plug on the end. Repro's are plentiful on Ebay and relatively inexpensive.
