Hi Guys Im new here. Im trying to identify the year my amp was made. I have looked all over and looked into the tube chart code and transformer code and Im still a little confused.

I got the amp from someone i know and the "date stamp" code on the tube chart is missing. It has a 2x15 Bassman speaker cabinet The tag reads "Fender Musical Instruments" ( I read thats significant to the year). The transformer has EIA606- 012 on one and the other is EIA606 028 on the other if im not mistaken, but it doesnt make sense to me that the year is a 0 (1960? 70? 80?). The fender logo does not have a tail. Idk,

Ive read all these little tricks and cant seem to pinpoint the year. Anyone have any ideas? Ill give you all the info I can.

It has a Master Volume knob
The chassis has what I assume is a serial stamp F074391
Also Stamped in ink on the chassis: 0854, and T10 in Large Letters

Here is the tube chart after i cleaned the tolex up a little:

Hi Metalfan! My WAG would be:

606-012 = 606 is Schumacher. 012 = 1980, 12th week for your amp.

606-028 = 1980, 28th week.

F0743391 = F0+5--digits is 1980.

Have any photos?

+1

That correlates to my archived data as well.

I got a chance this morning to take some pictures of it. I brought it to someone to check the parts out and be sure the caps and stuff are good before turning it on because its been sitting for years.

Metalfan, amp is in great shape. The Mallory filter caps are all original, too. "1980" stamp dating. I'd prolly change out those main filter caps, under the hood. 34 years old is pushing it, a bit, even with those quality caps.

Thanks! I have been dying to play it but I saw a cap or two swelled up so I'm investing into some replacement parts (non-china cheapys). I read that there are many circuit variations in these amps so I would like to find exactly which circuit mine has. I dont really know where to start in terms of figuring that out. I cant wait to try it!!!

By the way, Thanks for your responses guys I appreciate it!!!

Absent any visible evidence of fatigue (bulging cases, leaking electrolyte) I see nothing amiss with those caps. I'd fire it up now and start taking some dynamic voltage and current measurements.

Yes there is a little evidence of the caps swelling I can see it on the edges. Im also checking other things too like the carbon composition resistors and other caps. This amp came with a bassman 2x15 cabinet as well. I think the speakers in it are Fender branded.

Sure! I am in the middle of restoring the cabinet and cleaning it up a little but here are the photos before. All I did was clean the tolex a little so far.

That's what you meant right? Or did you want pics of the speaker cabinet?

Oxford's made in the 1st week of 1981 -- likely original to the enclosure.

Sonically, you can do a lot better by hook-shotting these into the nearest convenient dumpster and installing something from Weber, WGS, or (if you have the dinero) JBL's. Altec's would also be a worthy option.

Well I am planning on playing guitar through this thing. I haven't even considered speaker options at this point. I would have to hear some and see what i like i guess. I know the JBL's are expensive my old man was telling me about them. I dont have money like that lol.

Weber and WGS offer some nice-sounding, modestly-priced alternatives. As for the Oxfarts, pry off the magnets and use them as Frisbees. That's about all they're good for.
