I believe my Blue label Oxfords out of my old Bandmaster cabinet are rated at 30W. Since a Deluxe Beverb is rated at 22W, would one of these Oxfords be a good replacement for the existing stock DR speaker?

If they are 30 watts, I see no reason why it wouldn't work. Just check to make sure the ohms match up. I think the Bandmaster is 4 Ohm, and the Deluxe is 8 ohms.

I have read that the Oxford 12T6 is a pretty good speaker, unlike many other Oxfords that are sonically challenged.

FWIW

An Oxford is the last speaker I'd install in a Deluxe Reverb -- the 12K5 and 12L6 were OEM in that amp for many years during its production run and they do nothing for the amp's sonic potential. Either is guaranteed to strangle the tone right out of it.

I have to wonder why so many were sold? I can't use them at this time anyway because my DeVille is 60W. I just had them reconed and they need a nice break-in. I'd like to buy a used Deluxe at 22W to do this.

Easy enough to decipher. FMI's procurement department was structured along the lines of the Department of Defense paradigm......

LOWEST BIDDER

Prior to 1965 Oxford built a relatively decent driver. Once production of Fender amps ramped up after the CBS buyout, Oxford's QA/QC began to suffer as they struggled to satisfy the ever-increasing demand. The supply situation grew still worse in early '67 when Fender threw Jensen from the sleigh over a pricing dispute. Utah was brought on board to help cope with the load but their speakers were no less mediocre than the post-65 Oxford's.

bluezguy09, I've replace the stock DR and DRRI speaker with Weber 12A125A's. Very nice results.

+1

When I had my '68 DR it had the original Oxford in it and it sounded like crap, I didn't even bother having it reconed...

OTOH, the 10" Oxfords that came in my '67 Vibrolux Reverb were actually very nice speakers, even with the original and tired cones. Very different compared to the 12" in the DR.

An original Jensen C12N is an excellent speaker in that amp!
