I recommend doping only when a particularly bright guitar such as a Tele or a Rick is the primary instrument or jazz is the player's main musical genre.

I couldn't handle the new look so I had to run it through the wash a couple of times.

That turned out really swell, upnorth.

Just needs a couple of scorch marks courtesy of Pall Mall for total authenticity.

I tossed this in the amp today. Wow is this a stiff cone, almost like it needs to be broke in. I've never tried one of these organ pull P12Q's before. Are they all like that? Dried out? Maybe I should just get it re-coned right off the bat, the frame is in great shape.

Vintage cones frequently become brittle with age. I would monitor this driver very closely and examine it periodically for fractures at the surround, the most critical area for vibrational damage. A re-cone may very well be in order.

A little humidity might do it some good before it is used. Might soften it enough to work it in.

A stint in a humidified room might not be a bad idea. Say, a RH of 30% for a week or so.

Well I'm taking your advice Arjay. I'm sending the speaker to Dusty. From our brief conversation he seems very competent. This P12Q sounds like crap in any amp. The lower part of the cone moves fine but the surround is locked up solid, I was watching it while hooked to a 6.3v tranny - one of those things that are irritating to look at. :x

I'm sure the reconditioned speaker will put a smile on your face, UN.

And you'll have a ball unpacking it when arrives......it took me the better part of forty-five minutes to remove the custom-fabricated foam cocoon he prefers for protecting speakers while in transit.
