A little "JP" to break those caps in right? Sounds good to me. Figured I'd give the blue Sozo's a try, then give my humble review. Can't decide on a 10" or a 12" so I'm making two baffles to swap out easily.

Very nice job! Nice to have the right tools, esp with woodworking. Be interesting, re: your thoughts on those Zoso caps. I suppose you should test drive "Black Dog," as the first song.

You're so right BMW2002Ti. The right tools and the know how makes for a beautiful cabinet. unorth definitely knows what he is doing with the wood.

And the chassis assembly work is top-drawer too......NASA grade all the way!

Rawk on!

Thanks for the compliments. Still waiting for the 3/8" baltic birch for the baffles. Rockler quit carrying it so I had to find a different source. Can't get it locally.

Just about finished. Just need to do some final voltage readings tomorrow and then I can test drive it. Figured I'd try a 10" first. It sure was nice having that '59 Deluxe cabinet here to take measurements from.

Now that is some fine work there upnorth! I don't see how it could get much nicer than that! Enjoy the test ride.

Thanks a bunch. Took it for a spin and I'm likin' it. After doing the initial voltage checks, I put some tubes in and threw my bias meter on it. I've got 358v on the plates and the bias is about 20mA's with a JJ 5Y3, EH 6V6's. Bias could stand to be a little hotter. I'll see what it is with some RCA 6V6GT's and a RCA 5Y3GT, lower yet I'm sure. I insulated the input jacks on this amp. Don't know how much that helped, but it's really quiet up the dial. Very pleased so far, but an alnico is probably a better match for this amp.

I'll spend some time playing it the next couple of weeks and try to give an accurate review of these Sozo caps in this circuit. 100 hours recommended break in on the caps? Really? I would think after 10-20 hours, the difference after that would be minimal.

Thanks again.

Throw a Weber 12A150 in it and see what happens (allow for adequate speaker break-in time).

With the RCA's in there:

Plate voltage 378v
Bias -15mA
B+ 382v @ pin 8, rectifier

To me that's too cold for the RCA 6V6's I could either increase the 56K or decrease the 10K to increase the negative voltage and in turn, the plate voltage would drop some also right? Say an 8K in place of the 10K?

That's relatively cool for a pair of 6V6GT's -- RCA's typically start to sing at around 21-23 mA.

Have you given any thought to modding the bias-supply circuit by adding a pot? That would give you a measure of flexibility.

Yes, that was my initial plan and do have everything I need to do that. I bought some of the parts for this amp from Mojotone and by way of discussion the guy said that using adjustable on 5F11's would take away some of the depth. Now I'm not totally convinced of that, not understanding why it would. Maybe in their design with a bias pot it did. What are your thoughts Arjay? This was my plan from an earlier post, changing resistors to get the initial "middle of the road" spot. I have some 51K, 47K, 11, 12, 13K, etc.

That's how I'd do it.

You might consider dropping that fixed 10kΩ resistor down in value -- say, to 4.7kΩ.
