Hi everybody!

Parallel to the idea to buy a "new" guitar I've tried a 1964 DeLuxe Amp in perfect conditions which I were definitely astonished by. What a tone!  Never heard before; I've tried some Pro Reverb, a 50's deluxe and several 60's Vox AC30 but nothing similar. I think it has the perfect power, 22 watt, great tremolo and possibility to have a dirty tone at good volumes as well as a great clean. Price is not so affordable (between 2/3k €) but it should be a good investment and an amazing amp to play with.
Having read somewhere that this version and the deluxe reverb are not so common and sought a lot.
I'd like to have also some feedbacks about your experiences!

Bye,
Mattia

Deluxe Reverb Amp would be more desirable and better in terms of resale value once you decide to part with it, however this little beast is certainly something you really need in your arsenal.
From memory there is some difference in pre-amp sections of the 2 versions but I'm sure someone will chime in soon to clarify.
Good luck and let us know once you make a purchase. :D

My first blackface amp was a '65 Deluxe, bought in '66 from the original owner (his dad had bought him a brand new Vox Viscount for Christmas that year and insisted that he unload the Fender). I think I paid $110. It was a great amp and served me well until my chops and my band demanded something louder. Replacement parts and tubes remain plentiful so you're likely to enjoy yours for quite some time. And do not be deceived by the 20-watt output -- it'll be plenty loud for all but the largest venues or an outdoor festival. In those instances, you can always mic the amp for additional volume. Add a 6G15 reverb tank or a quality reverb pedal and you've got a rig for life.

Is this the AA763 or AB763 circuit Deluxe? Think there is a tone stack setup difference between these two. Not sure of other differences. I need to look a the schematics.

Don't know which circuit is; maybe can have some more information.

@retroverbial: no problem at all for the watts, my amps are all maximum 30 watts (wem dominator reverb, orange ad30 head, handmade italian head) except for Bassman '59 reissue, love the tone of these amps which can be managed at low volumes with great results.

Take a look at the dropping resistors linking the cathodes of the phase inverter together. The AA circuit uses a 27k while the AB revision is spec'd to 22k. I believe that's the primary difference. Sonically, I doubt there's a significant change in tone.

Arjay,

If I recall there is some variance in the tone stack's caps. I gotta check it out when I get off work.

I play a '64 Deluxe with a Fender Reverb unit, it's my favorite setup since almost 10 years now. Works for most places, if not one can mic or I use my Bandmaster.
Congrats on your purchase.
