upnorth,

I dunno about that seller. If you click onto the picture of the cap, then the data sheet on the right side --- there is no listing for a 25mfd/25VDC cap. I have never seen such a cap from F&T. Maybe, only available in Europe?

Maybe one of our members "across the pond" could give them a call.

I use their 33mfd/160VDC for bypass use. Very nice cap. I twist the negative end leads in those sections that used to have original dual 25/25 at 25VDC caps. Fits well.

Don't you ear more drive , not same tone ? Or not enough mfd to tell by ears ?

Stratele, very little frequency response difference. I don't think the nominal 8mfd makes too much difference, in terms of bass roll-off. Also, the tolerance in these caps aren't that tight. I remember someone did a measure of new 'lytics and found certain brands can vary quite a bit, from lot to lot.

The extra voltage rating is nice. A little better stability over time.

I still use the Sprague ATOM 25mfd/50VDC cap. The 85C rated ones. They have given me no issues.

Stratele,

I'm trying out F&T caps. As far as I know, they do not make single 25mfd caps in the voltage range needed. The closest ones I could find (in the US, at least) are the 33mfd/160VDC. Believe me, they sound good. No difference, in terms of bass, to my ears. Not compared to the Sprague ATOMS 25mfd/50VDC caps.

Also, I've been using F&T 100mfd/100VDC 'lytics in the bias supply.

thanks again for all the help, finally getting round to ordering parts but struggling to find what i need, i'm in the UK.

i'm right in saying according to the diagram i need 3x 20uF 350vdc for C7a, C7b, C8
but the closest i can get (as advised in an earlier post) is 22uF/500vdc
which i can get from either
http://www.hotroxuk.com/f-t-axial-lead-caps.html
or
http://www.audiocap.co.uk/ft-capacitors-2-c.asp

for C6 i need 25uF 25vdv
so i get 25uF 50vdc

again available from the above sites.

but i' unsure where i can get replacements for C2 and C5

and it was suggested i change the 2 watt 220ohm resistor for a wirewould 250ohm 5 watt resistor. i was hoping to order everything from one site (which is why i haven't even started yet!)

again guys, any help would be appreciated!

22mfd/500VDC for the 20mfd/350VDC caps is fine. F&T.

25mfd/50VDC for the 25mfd/25VDC is also fine. Sprague Atoms.

250-ohm, 5watt wire wound for the 220-ohm 2watt is highly recommended. Generic "sandbox" style resistor.

For the 2mfd/50VDC and the 10mfd/25VDC bypass caps use Sprague Atoms 8mfd/150VDC caps.

All are available from Antique Electronic Supply.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

If the amp passes the "smoke test" you'll know you've done well.

Let us know how it goes.

Nice job on the R&R. :D

Believe me, you should much better bass & quieter amp. Those F&T should last through a million gigs. Ok, maybe not a million... several hundred thousand.
