I still have several unused Sprague's on my bench but they were all bought years ago, before the company committed QC/QA suicide by flushing their rep down the crapper. I'll use them as the opportunity arises but I'll be purchasing no more.

Stratele, I knew that was going to sound funky-doodles, at best.

OK, version 1.2:

" Après Sprague a arrêté la bonne inspection de leurs produits. Et a placé leur réputation dans la toilette. "

NB: " La Réputation dans la toilette " = changer la bonne réputation à la mauvaise réputation.

Sorry, for butchering up French. German would have been much easier for me.

Stratele, Whew! :D

I haven't had any issues with their black plastic covered (25, 50, 100, 450VDC --- 85-degree C rate) electrolytic caps. Or the older yellow plastic covered 105-degrees C rated caps. It's their newer blue plastic covered 450-500VDC (65-degrees rated) that seem to be the issue.

Several have failed on me. They were all the 20mfd/500VDC, 65-degrees C rated blue plastic covered caps. Early infant deaths that lead to very noisy sections, that the caps were supposed to be filtering. Input, tone, EFX sections. I have not had problems with F&T caps, in these same stages. I've used F&T exclusively, in the main PSU section for about 4 years.

I have also gone to wire-wound resistors in the main PSU. You can get very quiet, rock steady voltages out of the PSU with careful implementation of F&T caps and WW resistors. Keep leads short and use good soldering techniques. I believe that this will help create a long, happy life for the amp.

F&T only makes the dual cap 25mfd/25mfd rated at 25VDC. It is physically very large. As large as their single 22mfd/500VDC rated filter cap. So, it doesn't fit well on the tagboard.

I use their 33mfd/160VDC for bypass use. Very nice cap. I twist the negative end leads in those sections that used to have original dual 25/25 at 25VDC caps. Fits well.

Thanks. Still wonder why no one carry's the F&T 25uf/25v's. I suppose for the same reason no one makes a tweed tremolux chassis.

upnorth,

They don't make one. At least not in their inventory. See link. Click onto '"Serie A. (-45C to +85C)."

http://www.ftcap.de/index.php/axiale-ko ... rchiv.html

Sprague makes the black plastic covered 25mfd/50VDC 'lytic. It's is rated to 85C. I've have had no issues with this cap. Sprague number TVA-1306.
