I have finally decided at the age of 46 to finally get some real tone. Here are my 69 Champ and 73 super reverb I have acquired in the last month. The Champ has a replacement speaker, Ted Webber signature series. The superchamp is all original, except no footswitch. Apparently I should get the caps replaced. But it sounds fine as is. Anybody got any insight to this?

You got two nice tone machines there!!! Super Reverbs are one of my favorite amps, and you can't beat a nice drip edge champ for some sweet tone. Congrats on two fine amps. As far as the caps go, if they are original, it is probably time to have an amp tech replace em and give the circuit board a once over just to make sure. Both amps look to be in very good condition.

How do you like the reverb from the Super? The 72 Super I had sure did have some great reverb to it, and the '65 Super Reverb I have is even better. What speakers are in the Super? CTS?

Here is my Drip Edge Champ and BFSR...and a couple others too.

At their respective ages, new electrolytics are a foregone conclusion. The replacements will not affect either amp's tone to any appreciable degree. While you're rummaging around inside the chassis, check the resistors on your power rails and output-tube sockets. Replace any that appear "toasty" or exhibit excessive value drift as measured by a DVM. An idle-bias check wouldn't be a bad idea either. You've got some nice pieces there and you want to do all you can to preserve them.

Very nice collection!!!
Seeing how all the Mod videos start with " there is enough Amps to kill you", I wont be rummaging anytime soon. I will look into service soon though.

Alnico CTS speakers dating to the 37th week of 1973 which is consistent for the age of your amp. Likely they're the originals.

What Arjay said. The filter caps will most likely have a wart or two on them.

Great looking amps across the board. I hate to think of the ones that ended up in landfills, Tweeds probably most often.

Thanks Manny, I need to actually update my photos...recently added the Bassman head for that cab.
Those CTS Alnicos are some of the finest speakers ever to be put into a Super Reverb, that thing should sound great, you are going to be happy, happy, happy!

The alnico CTS ten sounds pretty tasty in a Princeton Reverb as well.

You got that right! I love the tone of mine...although only a lowly Princeton without reverb. Of course now that I have a Fender Reverb Unit it should sound even better!

I think that CTS couldn't make a bad 10 inch speaker, their Ceramics sound fine too!
