Have'nt tried this yet on my twin........but this wknd. after my gronded cord mod, I thought i'd try it out.
Probably will sound like crap, but will report if not.
12bz7 same gain as ax7,but half the plate resistance. Microphonics shouldn't be an issue in this slot?

btw.......not running a v1 12ax7, so current drain shouldn't be an issue.

The 12BZ7 is a sub-type of the 12AX7. Designed for TV circuit use (vertical & horizontal sync circuit). It'll work fine in a 12AX7 position. One thing, the tube draws twice as much heater current. Should not be a problem if you are only subbing one tube (0.15 amps for the 12AX7 versus 0.3 amps for the 12BZ7 at 12.6 VAC).

How that 12BZ7 sound in the PI position? Bet it maybe a tad microphonic (which can be a good thing). Running your hottest testing 12AX7 in V1 can give you similar results. The new Gold Lion B759/ECC83 is one of the hottest new tubes around. FWIW.
