And once I remove the grill cloth I'll be able to pinpoint the baffle board's original mounting holes for the logo. The current location is incorrect -- too far to the left side and too much vertical angle (yeah......I'm that anal).

Yes you are...but I would call it more of attention to detail...something you might have picked up during a previous part of your life? Can't get a 7 Level without it!!

The amp is coming along nicely, and getting it's rightful "Blackface Suit" back has got to be very satisfying to you and the amp!

When I put new grill cloth on my SFSR I was concerned about getting the logo in the original holes myself. You probably have a neat trick for that.

FWIW. I took general measurements of the screw hole locations on the baffle board before I put the new grill cloth on. After installing the grill cloth, working in the area of the measurements, I started sticking a straight pin through the grill cloth until I found the holes. Only took 3 or 4 attempts before I found the holes. Worked great for me.

Looking forward to your progress on this amp.

RAWK ON !!

Jerry

That's exactly how I do it, Jerry. Locating the first hole is the most difficult but once identified, it's relatively easy to merely extrapolate the other two by using the logo itself as a template.

Yep! That's it. Glad to learn I'm doing something the right way.

Ready for duty: The original-and-aging Mallory electrolytic caps have all been replaced with new F&T’s and a proper 3-conductor grounded power cable has been installed......

Refurbishing the filter-cap array added a few additional volts to the B+ supply (from the original 414 VDC to 440 now) and a fresh pair of NOS gray-plate GE 6L6GC’s biased to 39.5 mA have been installed. A new JAN/Raytheon 12AT7 replaced the JJ ECC83S in the V3 position which tamed the reverb channel a bit and sounds much smoother with a Fulltone OCD pedal up front.

Arjay,

Good job! First time that I've seen the manufacture stamp on the main PSU tagboard. Bet that the amp is pretty quiet, at idle. Now, for a full blast test drive.

I've had it dimed a few times now......sounds like frying bacon smells.

The amp actually sounded a skosh meaner when it had a JJ ECC83S in the V3 position (the configuration it was in when it arrived). But it tended to mush out with any type of OD stompbox used in conjunction with the vibrato channel or with a humbucker-equipped Les Paul. The correct 12AT7 sounds much more "civilized".

I should have the repro aged-white grill cloth installed shortly.

I wonder if this is a '66 thing...my Bassman is stamped the same way.

Possibly -- such markings are not present on my '65 Princeton Reverb nor my '67 Bandmaster.

Nor my 65 Super Reverb! Either way, can't wait to see your Vibrolux Reverb in fully restored condition!

All dressed up and ready for another fifty years of service.

The chassis’s been bench-checked, new electrolytics are installed, a matched pair of NOS gray-plate GE’s now occupy sockets 7 and 8, and the cosmetics have been restored to their rightful blackface glory.

This project was a real pleasure to work on –- aside from the incorrect front panel and grill cloth, the amp was totally unmolested. No missing components to research and track down, no broom-and-dustpan servicing to straighten out somebody else’s maintenance mess, no insidious surprises whatsoever. And it came in well under my budget. Lotta fun!

Thanks, guys!

Hopefully in another twenty or thirty years it'll develop the same visual mojo as my Vibroverb.
