I've been cruising around the internet all morning trying to figure out if I have one of the Riveras or not?

Silverface
1x12
SN: F415993
Says it was made in Fullerton, CA
Speaker is EVM-12L with SN of 0200076080

It's in pretty decent shape, just needs a tune up, has original footswitch and what not. I'm trying to figure out how much it might be worth as it's not something I'm super interested in at the moment.

Any ideas? Sorry if this is redundant, this is my first post.

Hi amixson27,

Check the amp dating info here on the Fender site.

amixson27...You amp was in fact made in 1984. I too have a Concert from the Rivera era (2x10) config. Here is a couple of good sites to learn a bit more about your specific amp.

Post a couple pics if you get the chance, we'd love to see it.

+1

If your EVL speaker is original to the amp, it was an extra-cost upgrade from the stock OEM driver. Most 1 x 12 Concert Amps were sold with the standard ceramic Eminence speaker. The EV amps were about 12-15 lbs heavier as a result.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I'll try and get some pics when I get home. I actually acquired it in a trade. I had a reissue deluxe reverb and scored the Concert off of craigslist. Is there any way to tell if it's an original EV speaker? Everything about this definitely looks 30 years old and it is DEFINITELY heavier than it looks to be. Thanks for the links!

The 1 x 12 should weigh 57 lbs, so it should weigh more than that with the EVL loaded in it. If you post some pics of the speaker or tell us all the numbers on it, we should be able to at least tell you if it is from the same time frame and maybe even if it is original.

As for value depending on condition $600 - $750. I used mine to gig with in the 80's/90's and it NEVER let me down once!

They built them right back then.

Yes they did, still used Finger Jointed pine cabs...might have been the last for quite sometime. They even touted the cab construction in the ads for 'em back in the early 80's!

It's the only way to build a sturdy one.

You can built a sturdy one by many other way but it cost more . That is what I do when I built my amps 'cause I don't have finger joint tools.

Sure we can but cost more.

Stratele52...sure there might be more sturdy ways, but you would be hard pressed to make them in a mass production/consistent way. Leo KNEW exactly what was needed and he hired one of the greatest amp cabinet makers ever in Sam Hutton! Sam took pride in making those finger joint cabs and if done correctly as Sam did, you would be hard pressed to make a stronger or better one. You have to remember these amps were designed to be tossed in the back of pickup truck bounce over country roads and still be gig ready.

FWIW

Or frozen overnight in the bowels of a tour bus's luggage-locker ala Buddy Holly and his ill-fated companions.
