Hello!

My new SRRI arrives soon and i am wondering if changing the new reverb tank with a old Accutronics tank will drastically change the sound of the reverb in the amp. I can only image since the old tank is vintage..

All tank manufacturers design their products for specific applications and specs as determined by the various amp companies. Those specs include input impedance, output impedance, type of grounding configuration, and length of delay. If your old tank's specs (most critically the impedances and the grounding protocol) are simpatico with the SRRI you'll have no problems. OTOH if they aren't, you may find that the tank does not function at all or functions poorly. No harm will result by trying it out though.

Oh, haha.

I thought it was much easier than that.
Is the only thing that can change, the decay of the reverb effect?

Probably wont bother doing it if that's the only thing it will change.

From an audio standpoint, yes. But that's assuming that the tank's other parameters are cooperative with the design of the amp's driver and recovery circuits. I will state with all candor though that the made-in-USA tanks are much more durable and reliable than any off-shore equivalents.

Look for numbers and letters that are ink-stamped on the tank, something like "4EB2C1B". The digits are significant to the input and output impedance, the grounding of input and output, as well as the mounting orientation. Of course the size of the tank will determine whether it fits in the cab, but you can interchange the sizes of tanks providing that the above parameters are matched.

An excerpt from the Accutronics site:

Part Numbering System
Reverb part numbers consist of seven digit code, ie 4EB2C1B. Each digit in the part number represents a specification. The part numbers are as follows:

Digit Specification
1st - Reverb Type
2nd - Input Impedance
3rd - Output Impedance
4th - Decay
5th - Connectors
6th - Locking Devices
7th - Mounting Plane

Part Numbering Specifications for Type 1 and Type 4, Outer channel dimensions are 16.75" length x 4.735" width x 1.313" height.
Example: 4EB2C1B
