So here is my Princeton, before and after.

Grill cloth needs a little more cleaning, and I have to "age" the new knobs yet.

Speaker by way of Arjay, he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. You could say he's the "Godfather" around here.

3 prong power cable added.

Old caps and power cord out. Chassis grounds no problem for Grandpappy's soldering iron.

Waiting for a new handle. Gonna take this one to a shoe repair place and see if they can re-stitch it.

Next step new tubes. Old power tubes are shot. Perhaps a bias adjust pot.

Now, that is what I called a real man's soldering iron.  Love the cloth black & white power cord. Like the kind on old school irons.

Great job! This is gonna be be one sweet amp. Good that ppl restore these puppies back to reliable playing status.

+1!

No problem getting a ground wire securely soldered to a trem claw either.

Must be what -- a 150-watt iron? 200?

Nice work.

Have to agree….. that soldering iron looks like something from my Dad's workbench. :D

That iron actually did belong to my grandfather. Might be older than the amp, not sure. No idea what the wattage is, but I can tell you it takes a while to heat up and cool down. You also have to be a little careful exactly where you grab that wood handle. :)

I have a 100-watter like that but with a bakelite handle. It gets very "toasty" when left plugged in for a while and takes 15-20 minutes for total cool-down. It's fused epidermal tissue a number of times......

T2,

Thanks, it's definitely a work in progress. Picked up a pair of 6V6GTs at lunch today from Andrews Amp Labs so I can get a better idea of how the fixed bias is.
[begin shameless plug]The proprietor there is really a nice guy, and from what I hear, they do good work there.(no personal experience other than buying tubes today.) [end shameless plug]
I'll eventually replace them again as I acquire some NOS tubes.

Assuming you live where I think you do, looks like the weather isn't to great there right now. Used to live there myself.

phansford,

Thanks, there's nothing quite like a behemoth of a soldering iron for dealing with heat-robbing chassis or anything else that acts like a big heat sink.
