Hello!

So I have only recently discovered that Fender started Reissuing the Super Reverb.

My question is this; I have a 1968 Super Reverb (AB763, Silver-face) that I use all the time when I practice and record. I don't want anything to happen to it (damage, theft) while playing a show.

Does anyone know the quality difference in tone on the reissue? If I buy one to use at shows instead of risking things with my actual vintage one, will the sound be totally different?

I'm assuming the answer is no, or that it won't be so different that someone other than myself will notice. But I felt asking wouldn't hurt anything.

Here is my take. Why would you want an approximation (even if is does sound pretty good) when you have a great vintage amp that was made to be played?!! Is your amp dead mint and an investment? Unless it is, just continue to play that puppy like you stole it.

I have an original '65 Blackface Super Reverb and if I had to play a gig outdoors or a big hall, no question about whether I would use it...of course I would. These amps where made to be played and are of a professional build quality.

As to your question, the Reissue does sound like the amp it is supposed to be. However, these reissues are not built as sturdy as your vintage one.

FWIW

I think you'll find that the forty-six year old amp with its seasoned components and aged loudspeakers will sound a bit more organic and "plump" than the re-issue. Assuming serviceable condition, it'll likely be more reliable as well. The newer amp might be useful as a backup to your silverface but I doubt you'll find that it can truly supplant it for vintage Fender tone. I routinely play out with my old Fenders (Vibroverb, Showman, Deluxe Reverb, Pro Amp, etc) and seldom worry about theft. I'm more concerned about more easily-pilferable items like a guitar.

Sound may be not same , very close , but not same . As many Blackface and Silverface I heard , some have most beautifull sound ( to my ears ) than other .

BF and re-issue amps do not have the same or very similar sound.
To my ears SF amps sound thinner and have less responsiveness (dynamics wise) than the BF ones.

The OP is referring to recent re-issues:

My Vintage SF is pretty damn close to mint. My Uncle bought it brand new and babied it (and the Les Paul he had) the entire time he had it. It sat in a closet at my cousin's house from 1981 when my uncle died until they gave it to me because "it didn't work" in 2002.

It needed a fuse.

Essentially I got it for free.

That's why I wondered about the Reissue, damage and theft are pretty much why I don't like using it for shows like I do now. The wooden piece behind the tubes at the back of the amp has already cracked from something falling into it while loading it in the van. (total accident involving a really snowy/icy curb and a clumsy bass player.) Sentimental value as well as it being the best sounding amp I've ever played through in the 15 years since I started playing makes me want to keep it around as long as physically possible.

I'm thinking I should bring mine to a store and just honestly compare them.

Buy a road case.

that's got to be one heavy rig once it's packed into a road case.
