These are very nice mil spec Sylvania big based 5U4GB tubes. I got a couple two or three off the Net for $25 each. Beware of Ebay sellers that sell re-labeled 5U4GB's.

The real deal have triple-mica, big brown micanol bases, and are black plates --- around 1950-54 vintage. With early green or light gold fine font Sylvania military printing. Lightning bolt logo may or may not be on the tube.

Very tough rectifiers. The 5930 series Sylvania tubes were specifically made for missile and jet aircraft use.

+1!

These 5931's were used to provide high voltage to the fire-control systems of the F-89 and F-94 coldwar-era interceptors.

Most of the tube-rectified silverface Fender's were changed from the GZ34/5AR4 to the 5U4GB in 1969. The exceptions were the Champ, Vibro Champ, and Bronco which retained their original 5Y3 bottle.

Lightnin MN, yeah... any amp that uses the 5U4GB. The only issue maybe the diameter of the base. It's a bit fatter. No problem with all pro level Brownface, BF, and SF amps.

For the 5Y3GT amps, there are nice slow-startup mil spec equivalents. The Bendix/TS 6016 (aka: 5Y3WGT, -WGTA, -WGTB) and the GE or Raytheon 6087 (or 6087W). They used to be very cheap. Like $5-10 each NOS, only 5-10 years ago. Then, some knucklehead hi-fi geek in Asia found out about them and started hoarding. I have a few left, if anyone is interested. Along with a bunch of NOS mil spec USA TS 5U4GB, I just purchased.

With these rectifiers, you will prolly only need one for the life of the amp (or the player  ). Sure beats checking the amp every time you gig, for a possible arc-over or flameout.
