hello,
I tried to date my amp on another forum but like they say, always get a second opinion...

so my twin blackface was dated 1980... saw a picture and it sure looked like mine..
it had wheels,, not sure if all 80's came with wheels?
on the front face it had a master volume push/pull knob that was encircled in its own box by a silver line with Twin Reverb in silver script and the red jewel light...
a stamped number punched into the aluminum chassis way over at the right end " #F090812".
with stamped in black is could be a U845 0r 0854?, and in larger stamped in block letters T-10.
On the rear chassis on the black plate is-fullerton ,CA . Fender musical instruments, CBS musical instruments, DIV of CBS Inc.
amp to spkr out jack is 4 ohm 125 watts RMS.
at the A-B ground switch is 120 volts, 60 Hz, 350 watts, 3.5amp.
on the other side is the fuse, 4amp,slo-blo, 125 volts.
choke 022921, 11A606-034
on one side of main transformer #A013692, EIA606-139, UL 1411.
On chassis 11!/T 409 T-10 in ink.
On side of chassis on sticker F090912, then stamped into the aluminum right of chassis is F090812......

So this is a blackface made while under CBS which is from 1965 to 1985 in Fullerton, CA.

if you use # F090812 you can get a date as listed in some book of serial number codes which
gives a earlier date?

And the there is a similar number # F090912 on a sticker? ones F090912 & F090

So if one uses these numbers I got from a fender history book online you could place this amp at 1970 or earlier?
But on another website a few guys looking at the transformer numbers say almost for certian it's a 1985 model...
1970 or 1980 is a major difference in the parts used in the amp...

I'd like to get more input on dating this amp... maybe I'm hoping that its not a 1980???

please contact me thru email at- popoahi@gmail.com
as I just found this website and won't monitor this site very much...

thank you , popoahi

Use the data on this site as a dating guide......

http://www.superiormusic.com/page195.htm

Your power tranny dates to the 39th week of 1981. If original, the amp is an '81 model. That's consistent with the other details you've mentioned.

ok,

there's F090812 and there is also F090912...

shouldn't the F090912 have 2 letters before the numbers?

I looked at the superior music site but I was told once I should be looking for a 2 letter code?

I see where it lists 70' to 89' model codes and the single letter F followed by 5 digits where it puts it in 1980.
so this is a guaranteed, no doubt about it date of manufacture?

if so isn't this one of the least desirable models because of the rectifier or does it go deeper than that?
or is it the twin 2 models?

I had a tech put in new AC power chord and just a general check up , so all is fine.
what would be a fair price to sell it for?

thank you very much, popoahi

aloha,

what are the reasons this model has such a bad reputation?
FORGOT TO ADD MINE IS SUPPOSEDLY 1980 BF TW.....

is it mainly the main rectifier or the way its wired?? how can an earlier year be worth thousands and mine 575.00?

mine sounds great???

what can I change to make it sound "better"???

It's a 135-watt, eighty-five pound boat anchor......very little demand today for such a hefty behemoth.

Nothing in heaven nor on earth can change that.

Truth told, there was scant need for it even "back in the day". But we all bought the PR hype and purchased them by the thousands anyway.

Now......you can't give them away.
