OK... waiting for the various Caps & Resistors to arrive - can't seem to find a one-stop vendor.

So, I decided to use the time to swap out the electrolytics in the Doghouse. The original Mallorys tested 100% spot on, but I suspected 2 might be leaking due to some staining underneath them on the board. Besides, after 47 years, they deserve a break.

Pulled (not snipped) the old Caps and lo & behold, none of them are leaking. The 'staining' I thought I saw was just a smudge of silver ink by some Fender employee who stamped the board. No worries, as I said, 47 years is good service enough !

Added the new F&T electrolytics, looking all shiney and new.

There's enough extra room inside the Doghouse now that maybe I'll add a Den !!

cheers!

Dunno...

I still have a bit of work to do so (waiting for parts) I don't want to power up and recharge all the caps at every stage.

Also found that the 3-prong conversion had been done the old way (probably back in the day), leaving the Death Cap wired up - potentially allowing the chassis to become AC HOT

Whoever did the work before routed the PT main over some DC wiring and had it looped freestanding 1.5" above the chassis - a perfect antenna for 'noise'.

Redid it, removed the Cap and tucked the wiring up under the chassis lip. This alone may have cured it... we'll see.

cheers!
