I can't seem to find a manual for this amp. Is it safe to run an instrument cable from the output line record jack straight in a mixing board?

Yes, that is one of the uses of that jack. You should ONLY use a shielded instrument cable is such a situation.

Thanks... I just didn't want to smoke anything!!!

Out of curiosity, what application would you use this for?

Ummm, for direct recording of the amp without using a microphone.

Thanks... that's what I thought. I just didn't want to overlook anything. Would you rather use this direct connection on stage live to go to the mixer or would you rather mic the amp?

I don't think that's a balanced signal coming from the line-out jack. It might be more efficient and easier to merely mike the amp. T2Stratman has one of those amps -- I'm sure he'll be along shortly with additional commentary.

I don't gig.

But, I would mike the amp to get the speaker component of the amp sound (which is a big part) for best tone.

It is an unbalanced line level output according to the schematic I could find. Looking again at the schematic, it appears the signal is taken off the output transformer secondary/negative feedback loop.

I do agree that miking the amp will probably get the best sound.

Thanks for the research and the schematic. It sounds like miking it is the best way to go for the best sound!

Yes I have a Concert amp (the 2x10 version) and have recorded with both the Line out and miked. Not even close, mike the amp.

I bought this amp new back in 84 and it came with everything, a nice padded cover, the schematic, footswitch, and of course the owners manual. As Bluesky stated, the schematic shows the Output Line Recording is not balanced, but the owners manual does not tell you this, so the manual won't help. The best thing about the owners manual is that it does tell you how to get extra gain by running a straight cord from the input to output of the effects loop and then dial the gain by using the send and return controls. Not sure if other all effects loop work this way as this is the only amp I have that has one.

In researching this earlier, I did stumble across the idea of running the straight cord from the input to the output of the effects loop. It sounds like a great idea!

Thanks... and everybody seems to be agreeing the amp should have a mike for the best sound!

That's why speakers were invented.

Why, hell's bells......I thought it was so I could take the crappy ones and use them as Frisbees!

A couple things here, what the straight cord does is bring in another unused gain stage so it does bring a good amount of it. Also, are you using this amp at gigs? If so, how big a place you playing? I only miked it for some outdoor gigs we did down at a club on the beach. These are pretty loud amps.

I had been plugging straight into our sound system so using an independent stage amp is new to me. I was thinking about the volume and wondering if just using the amp alone would be loud enough at the smaller (but sometimes crowded) venues we play at. This would certainly be the simplest!
