Hello all,

I have a 1968 silverface twin reverb that I believe has a blown speaker. I do not know hardly anything about speakers besides that they are fender blue-label alnico's with speaker codes 137 7833 & 005379. I have no clue if those originally came with the twin or really anything at all regarding that. Are the blue-labels the original vintage speakers?

Basically it doesn't sound the best right now & I'm not sure if I should have those speakers re-coned, find some vintage twin speakers to replace them with, or find some new speakers to replace. Any insight would be much appreciated!

Your current speakers were made by CTS in the 33rd week of 1978. Thus, they are not original to your amp (though they may be OEM for late-70's silverface Twin Reverbs). They'd be worth reconing if you liked the original sound prior to one of them taking a dump on you. They're not nearly as efficient as some of the modern designs from Eminence, Kendrick, or WGS but aged alnico is hard to come by and hard to beat for vintage tone. And they're certainly better than the OEM speakers originally installed in your amp (likely the Oxford 12T6 or the Utah equivalent). Expect to pay $65 to $70 each for a competent re-cone.
