Thanks to Santa & Mrs. LMN... a 1967 Fender Deluxe Blackface Amp !

Image

AB763 circuitry with a Jan. '67 build date - Date Code QA.
It's one of the last 400 Blackface Deluxes to be made before Fullerton switched over to Silverface production in Apr. '67.

Image

One-owner, all original (incl. orig. Sales Receipt dated Mar. '67). All tranny date codes/product #s match, orig. Oxford 12K5 speaker, orig. Tremelo pedal, orig. Victoria cover.

Cabinet - 10/10 (no dents)
Tolex - 10/10 (no tears, dings)
Front Panel - 10/10 (no scratches)
Back Panel - 10/10 (no scratches)
Grill Cloth - 8.5/10 (due to Nicotine staining)
Bright Work - 9/10 (needs shining)
Knobs - 9/10 (need cleaning)

Image

As far as Tone is concerned.... AMAZING !!

Side-by-side comparisons to my Peavey Delta Blues 115, '96 Fender Princeton Chorus or my Bugera Vintage 5... well there is NO comparison. I've never heard an amp so clean.

Located it in a small Ma & Pa store in KY on consignment w/ a motivated seller.

Got some great advice beforehand from one of our members who's especially knowlegeable about the Blackface Amps... so a Big THANK-YOU to him !! (To keep the Paparazzi away, I won't mention his name, but he's welcome to identify himself if he wishes).

Have already sourced all new NOS Vintage Tubes, and after the Holidays, I'll really clean it up, pull the chassis and check the Caps and set the Bias for the new Tubes.

cheers!

Lightnin...CONGRATS that is one clean puppy  . And if it sounds that great with that Oxford, imagine how well it will sound with something befitting it circuitry.

You are a lucky man (yeah that includes Mrs Lightnin) and the new amp.

What would you recommend?

I really like the sound of the Oxford and can't imagine a better sounding speaker.

But I'm not at all averse to finding a more common vintage speaker such as a Jensen to take the workload so I can mothball the orig. speaker.

cheers!

Vintage Jensen C12P or C12N. The latter may still be found with the Fender-marked gold-and-brown label if you search diligently.

Arjay,

Which between the two? I have located vintage models of each.

Also, is the new C12N a good choice?

cheers!

Not stone throwing here lightnin, if you like the tone, then that is all that matters, it's just Oxfords are not known for their great tone. Was thinking it could sound even better. I would go with a vintage C12N like Arjay stated, those are my favorite 12 inch Jensen. Just can't go wrong with them, and you should be able to find a vintage date correct one. By the way thanks for the amp porn especially since you just don't see too many Non Reverb Deluxes out there!

Would you put 20-inch modular alloys on a rotisserie-restored 1971 Mach 1?

The C12P is a 30-watt speaker. The C12N will handle forty. Vintage Jensen's were spec'd a skosh more conservatively back in the day.

I have yet to hear a newly Made in Italy Jensen that sounds like the original USA ones. BTW... just to add to the confusion; I really the tone of vintage Jensen alnicos in these 6V6GT powered amps. If you are going for slow-onset, Bluesy tone --- the P12 (-R, -Q, -N, going up in watt ratings) sound very, very good in this amp.

Weber VST vintage 12-inch alnico, like the 12A125A is a good replacement speaker.

Good luck! Great amp you have.

BTW... any photos under the hood? Nudge, nudge... wink, wink.

Actually, I'm thinking of getting a couple different speakers (along w/ harnesses). They're so easy to swap, it might be nice to have some 'flavors'.

Photos under the Hood will happen after the Holidays are over and life settles back to normal, but I promise to get some up.

cheers!

Really, really nice! I'd toss a Weber Alnico in there.
