I posted in this forum because these 2 speakers I need help to identify were removed from a 70s Thomas organ. Anyone got a clue as to what brand and wattage they might be?

Numbers on the 12 inch speaker are:
Back = 33-5052-6
Basket = 12J4-21 and 465-524
Cone = P3570-6

Numbers on the 8 inch speaker are:
Edges = 220542 and C8R-C7939-3

TIA

Jerry

Jerry,

The top ones with the "465-524" are Oxfords.

The black frame ones = "220-542" are Jensens. Looks like C8R.

Both seemed to made in year 196(5) or 7(5).

+1 on all specifications.

Nice score, Jerry!

That little 4-ohm Jensen would prolly sound real sweet in a Champ or Vibro Champ.

Thanks Steve & Arjay,

I knew you guys would probably know what their pedigree was.

I wouldn't push that "J-coil" Oxford too far -- they're only good for fifteen watts max.

Thanks Arjay,

I was thinking it was not a very high wattage speaker.

The magnet on the little Jensen is heaver than the Oxford. What do you think the wattage is on the Jensen ?

The R-coil Jensen should be good for twenty watts.

Thanks again Arjay.

I'm gonna keep it as a spare for my granddaughter's little Frontman. :wink:

For Sure!

You know that was strange. That Thomas Organ I removed the speakers from had an 8 ohm speaker and a 4 ohm speaker. The 4 ohm was hooked up on the right side of the organ that had the tremolo. Mounted in front of the speaker was a large wheel (about 15 inches in diameter) with a styrofoam type baffle that was cut like a couple of waves (best way I can describe it). It was driven by a couple of wheels and with a belt drive. I guess that's how they got the tremolo and leslie effect in the organ.

The 8 ohm speaker was on the left side of the organ.

I never opened one up before. :D

Likely there were two discrete amplifiers, one driving each speaker.

Were there any tubes to be "harvested"?

Unfortunately no. :( It was a solid state design.

Sorry for the late response.

I hope the speaker met your expectations and is working well for you. :D
