I like the JBLs in my Twin Reverb just fine.

+1

As have I for the last four decades or so. But they are not everyone's cup of tea, usually because so few really understand how JBL's need to be played to hear their full sonic potential.

Never max out your amp's tone controls. And use the bright switch only when you need that added kick for a specific song or musical passage.

I am willing to bet the Weber's are good reproductions. JBL was not the sound you sought.

You'd lose that wager.

The Weber's are nothing like the JBL's. The Lansing is a short-throw driver using a seamless molded cone, with a four-inch coil wound of aluminum ribbon, powered by a 11½ lb alnico magnet structure. There is simply no comparison possible between it and the Weber California, whose engineering and construction are totally different. I have A/B'ed these two speakers side-by-side in identical enclosures and they aren't even close.

I just found this reply to me.

Thanks. :D

A thing I found with the my TRRI and JBL speakers (K120), they tend to be more sensitive to cold bias settings on the output tubes. Prolly because they are so efficient (?).

If the amp has a sterile, kinda dry midrange tone --- check your 6L6GC's bias. They maybe on the cold side. I have my TRRI's 7581A (mil-spec 6L6GCs) biased to around 48mA per tube at 478-482 VDC plate voltage. About 66% of the max dissipation recommended for these tube (35 watts per tube). This gives the amp a nice warm tone. Very powerful.
