Did you lift one leg of that resistor to ascertain its actual value or measure it in situ?

16 or 20 , amp will work fine and .....better at high volume . These value are too close to put other one. They are new and replacement for the old ones . Live them there , this not the issue.

The resistor was measured in place - not lifting one leg.

I wondered about the caps because everything I read said 16ufd. The 20's were put in by some tech before I knew enough to stay on top of that. They have been there now for years and until the recent issue (no sound) have not been an issue. What benefit would I get by putting in the correct filter caps? In what way would it affect tone?

Check the 2 resistors between 2 filter caps ( 20 mfd) , where is the set of 5 blue Sprague atom .

Also they look small for 1 watts resistor . Is the photo ? Or are they same size of others in the amp ? Read those in ohms , discharche filter caps before wirh a resistor not a eire only , youll' damage caps. If too samll , not enough powerful, they may be open , defective and amp will't work.

Most of the DR use 10 k .

You read my answer ? 16 or 20 = same . Or the amp may keep is tone at high volume better than 16 and could be also same too .

Tone will not be affect . forget that .

Reading of the 2 resistors please . And can you read voltage on resistor eiht amp ON ? each side .

LethAl voltage ; be carefull

Thanks for all of your help, Rock Star. I did miss your earlier follow-up comment saying to not worry about the 16 vs 20 caps. I will let that be. I will measure the 2 resistors when I get home this evening and post the values.

Thanks again...I REALLY appreciate your time and help. (btw...I ordered a set of power tubes today just to have...whether that is the problem or not I need a back-up set.)

Since you have a meter, simply check your DC power supply voltages compared to those listed on the schematic, they should be close but not necessarily the same. The high voltage DC supply comes from the rectifier tube.

You will never get an accurate static measurement using that method.

Looks like 20ufd is just fine here ..

Many moons ago, someone told me that the 16mfd cap came from doubling early 8mfd filter caps. In the 1940's 8mfd were the largest cheap mfd caps available. Multiple of 10mfd/HV (450-500VDC) became more affordable in the 1950's.

Or something like that....

In any event, 20mfd should work fine in an OEM 16mfd section. Most lytics have a +10% tolerance. And the amp, itself has a 10% tolerance (except in areas with 5% resistors). So overall tolerance can be as high as -/+ 20%.

OK...again, I really appreciate everyone's reply. Sorry it has taken me so long to get back here (out of town guests). Anyway, finally had a chance to check voltage on Pin 3. I am getting a reading of 461 with guitar and speakers plugged in. Everything I have read tells me that is a high reading. Replacement tubes have still not arrived. So what does that voltage reading tell me? (I'm loving learning all of this. Thanks for coaching a newbie... Yes, I drained the filter caps again after my test. :-) )

DB, You need to remove the guitar cable from the amp input, amp volume on"0". Are you measuring the output plate voltage without power tubes? Is your rectifier tube a GZ34 or 5U4GB ? Art

I have read numerous places that I couldn't get an accurate reading without tubes in place so, yes, all tubes in place. I did not know about guitar cable or Volume. The rectifier tube is a Mullard GZ34. Should I measure it again - without power tubes this time? (and without guitar cable and Volume at 0)
