Hi All,
Can anyone provide their knowledgeable input as to whether the grill is original on this Fender Pro from 1974 ? Image

Perfectly original and legitimate.

Fender switched to the rust-orange weave for the 1974 model year and it remained standard until 1978, when they transitioned back to the metallic-turquoise cloth.

Thanks Arjay,
I was told that the amp is All original and never gigged and hardly ever played. It has the original Fender cover with printed small silver logo 'Fender Pro Reverb'. The cover itself is in pristine condition suggesting it has been looked after. The valves are the original RCA, original Oxford 12L6 speakers & transformers all date late 1973, the serial number dates to 1974.
Back to the cloth, presume this could still have been replaced with repro cloth ?
Cheers

Why would you replace the cloth as this one is in perfect condition and date correct. :?:

Unequivocally, no.

There is no textile mill making repro rust-orange material. And all of the other repro grill cloths are instantly identifiable because the weave pattern is approximately 30% larger than the original (including the cloth Fender is currently using).

Thanks again Arjay, I did have a search around the web and as you say could not find anyone who is selling rust orange repro matching into the my amp.

Apologies if I didn't explain properly, the cloth is so clean that for 40 years old I could not believe it was original. Arjay has set my mind at rest.

Here is an example of the exact same cloth as factory-installed on a '74 Bandmaster cabinet......

Image

Note the contrast between it and the newer 1980 Bassman 135 head which has its original metallic-turquoise cloth which Fender switched back to with the start of the 1978 model year.

As an aside, this cab originally held a pair of those OEM Oxford 12L6 pie tins which were unceremoniously replaced by a pair of modern Eminence bass drivers.

I agree, very clean example.

Marshall50w, how does this 1974 Pro sounds, have you had any modifications done to the circuitry? :?:
