Hey I'm looking at buying this Silverface Twin Reverb off Craigslist. Asking price is $500, but I think I can trade my Pro Jr. (I paid $215) and $200 for it. Some things about it: Serial #a768462 all things are original except the tremolo/reverb pedal which have been replaced. Guy says everything functions well. Look at following pictures for more. I honestly plan on possibly selling it for a profit.. not sure if it's a good price or if I should buy it? He also says tubes are about 4 years old but two of them have been spent sitting around. It is also the 135 watt version. http://greensboro.craigslist.org/msg/4117492250.html - small tear in tolex
I also found this one http://raleigh.craigslist.org/msg/4027481231.html not sure if that's a good deal either?

There is no question about it, go with the second one listed. In fact for $500 it is a STEAL! Run to your phone and tell him it is sold!.

Do the speakers detract from it? Also I noticed that it has been up for about two months which maybe makes me think it's less of a steal?

The speakers look like they might be original Oxfords or perhaps Utah's and they are not sonically the best in the world to begin with but adequate. This amp even if you have to put a bit into is more than worth it if a Twin Reverb is what you want, short of getting a Black Face one!

The pics suck.

But they do reveal that the second offering is a '68 drip-edge model, the original 85-watt Twin Reverb platform. The circuit may be the initial AB763 version or the mid-year AC568 revision (relatively easy to backdate to AB763 specs). Its cab will have the original solid-pine, finger-joint construction, with a removable baffle board (better in all regards than the 135-watt boat-anchor's flimsy enclosure). Both of the '68 amp's speakers are Oxford 12T6 ceramic's though only one appears to be original to the amp.

Upshot?

It's a better-built and more useful amp.

I'll ask for some more pictures of the 68 Twin Reverb and post them here. Seems like a good buy and a fun project, especially given its potential for sound and value.

Ask specifically for pics of all the trannies and (if possible) gut shots of the chassis. EIA codes and P/N's are especially useful. Once a definitive build date can be established, it'll make determining which circuit revision is applicable much easier.
