I'm sure there are plenty of articles on the web. You might also consider adding a standby function to the rear panel -- it's an easy mod that's both extremely useful and totally reversible. The alteration uses the switch that formerly performed the ground/polarity duties (which itself becomes superfluous once the amp has been retrofitted with a grounded 3-conductor power cable).

Good photo of common type of "red plating." Notice how the circled overheating spot shows the inner grid structure through the plates? Often seen at seams of the plate construction.
