I have narrowed it down to the the 12F150 & the 12A125A. Here is my conundrum, I don't want speakers that are too loud because due to the room I'm playing in, I'll have to use my Air Brake which prefer not to do, would the 12F150 be a lot louder? I'm using pedals for my dirt.

When comparing speakers, look for the sensitivity ratings. They are rated in db, the higher this number is the louder the speaker will be. I prefer speakers that are rated at less than 100, this way I can turn that volume knob just a little bit higher to get me closer to the ever elusive "sweet" spot.

I don't recall how much louder each decibel increases the volume, can someone can chime in?

It takes roughly a 3dB change in volume for the human ear to perceive it.

Thus, the difference between two speakers' SPLs would be imperceptible if they were rated at 98dB and 100dB. OTOH, a differential of 95dB and 100dB would be audible.

The Utahs are probably in the mid to low 90's and the G12h 30's are 100db so the F150's will be as loud as the G12's. Maybe the 12A125A is the right one as I assume they are about 95 db.

Something in the 94-97dB range should be ideal for your purposes.

Thx Arjay, I just ordered the Weber 12a125a's with light doping, I read that they're rated at
95-96 DB which would be perfect.

I think they'll put a smile on your face after the requisite break-in period (40 to 50 hours).

Rawk on!

Did you go with alnico or ceramics (20W or 30W?) .. and (sound-wise) what's the real difference between the two?! :?:

The "A" in 12A125A indicates a permanent rare-earth magnet.

Ceramics are designated by an "F".

I went with the 30 watt, I assume the 20 watt break up a little sooner and I want them to stay clean a little longer. Thery're are a number of YouTube videos if you want to hear them plus there are audio files on the Weber Site.

You are going to like these speakers --- if you want tight bass and clean highs. But, slightly warmer mids than with the ceramic models. I've replaced several DRRI with the 12A125. All customers seem very satisfied.

Thanks, please provide some feedback once you test the speakers.

A pair of 30-watt speakers in a 40-watt amp is my absolute minimum for providing a power-handling safety margin. A lesser rating is flirting with calamity should the amp develop a runaway tube during "spirited" operation.

Arjay, people put 25 watt Greenbacks & 15 watt Blues in A/C 30's and BluesBreaker Amps all the time, are Celestions able to handle higher watt Amps better? Just asking not disagreeing. Thx in advance.

I think those folks are whistling past the graveyard.

That's my opinion which of course anyone is free to dispute or disregard, just as I'll ignore their sniveling when catastrophe occurs and they plead for the name of a reputable speaker-repair shop to clean up their mess.

No rebuttal will change my mind though.

The Greenbacks are probably a safe bet but the Blues are woefully under-spec'd for an AC30. A better -- safer -- alternative would be Celestion's Gold alnico's.

:D I put the Weber 12a125a speakers in today they sound great, nice full rich sound with 3D definition. My Strat and Duo Jet were good and my Lovepedal Eternity was really rich. Can't wait til these baby's are broken in, now I'm thinking of some 10's for my Carmen Ghia.
