I recently picked up a late 60's Band Master head and cabinet. (Started another thread about it on this forum). Took it to a tech today, confirmed it's an early '68 assembly with '67 parts and the Blackface AB763 circuit. Cabinet appears to be a '67. It's the smaller 212 cabinet, and horizontally oriented compared to the '68 and later vertically oriented cabinets.

Unfortunately, both speakers were found to be torn/damaged, on of them being an original Jensen C12NA. THe internal baffle between the speakers was also missing.

So I need to replace the speakers. What's a good replacement out there? I have read the C12NA was a very well-liked and popular speaker for these cabinets, and also hear the new C12N isn't that great.

Also, can anyone suggest the dimensions and material used for the baffle/divinder that's between the two speakers?

I play mostly old-school country, alt-country and rock stuff, like WIlco, Son Volt, indie rock stuff, etc.

Suggestions greatly appreciated! Thanks!

+1 on reconing the Jensen, and if it were me, I would go Ebay and find another one to match it! I have a 66 Bassman Small Cab with those Jensens and they are worth every penny you'll pay for em!

There's only one original Jensen, and I may recone it and use it in another 1x12 amp. Looking for replacements for this cab.

The center partition is made of ½" MDF (same as the baffle board), with a ½" x ½" pine furring strip glued to the rear to provide a point of purchase for the back-panel screws bisecting the middle. An identical furring strip is screwed in the center of the baffle board (with a ½" offset) to provide support and stability at the front. These three parts (the partition and both pine strips) were commonly assembled at the factory via pneumatic staple-gun but I prefer to both screw and glue them together on a new-build repro enclosure to prevent rattles and buzzing.
