So, I bought a Silverface 1976 Twin reverb this week, and I need you lot to give me the basics and teach me the dos and do nots.

I've gone away for the weekend, though I've had enough time to plug it in and see that it's working and it isn't audibly or visibly damaged, and just enough time to ascertain that it really likes my green muff, but my OCD offends it somehow.

Over the next few months, I'll be kitting out a pedalboard for some shoegazey sounds, but my style ranges from Dinosaur Jr. to the Melvins to St Vincent, so there's an alternative rock focus, with a really varied approach.

Any advice, help, anecdotes or insight would really be appreciate

Thanks, Matt

Can you describe the issues when using your OCD with the amp?

I have one on my pedalboard and play a variety of vintage Fender amps (including two Twin Reverb's) and I've found the Fulltone to be pretty 'simpatico' with all of them.

It just isn't audibly pleasing to me. It just didn't sound good, very dark and unresponsive, where I've never really had that problem with it before.

Maybe it just needs more playing in, but I wasn't too taken with it's sound

Perhaps more time needs to be spent exploring the OCD and its three-knob configuration -- they're quite interactive and allow a wide range of sonic options. I usually set mine with all three controls in the "12 o'clock" position.

I really haven't seen to many amps that the OCD did not get along with. A twin reverb I would think would be a perfect match for one.

The only Fender amp I ever owned that didn't "play nice" with my OCD was my transistorized Stage 100 DSP. For some reason they never seemed to get along. I don't know if it was a result of the amp's solid-state architecture or some other issue. The amp was fine, the Fulltone fine. Just not used in unison.

I know the OCD with my blackface Bandmaster is virtual heaven.
Arjay's right about the "dialability" though. Controls are as sensitive as
a Mackey PA in the dark! You will not get what you want on the fly but
with a little quiet time with it (and a good cheat sheet for amp settings/
pick-ups and guitar tones) that unit nails just about anything and everything
in between. I use mine constant on with guitar volume swings and attack.
It gets just the right overdrive dirt.

Solid settings, Vin -- I often use that configuration myself. I also like the OCD as a clean-boost only, when soloing with my neck pickup. They're typically lower gain than the bridge or middle pickup and the Fulltone provides a nice sonic-steroid boost to EQ my overall volume.
