The tech biased the amp like this:

A bit of experimenting with the bias variations, but found (for now) the best tone to be here (65%):

Nikola,

That would equal about 20 watts idle dissipation per tube. Good ballpark.

It sound awesome at this stage however dialing various bias settings between 35 and 40mA doesn't produce significant tonal differences .. or at least at the lower volumes. :D

Looks like I need to spend more time in listening and adjusting at a higher volumes (above 5   ) .. where this beast really starts to screeeeeam

That's going to be one nice and loud amp, for sure. I bias my Fender 6L6GC amps to around 38-42mA per tube. Plate voltages vary from amp to amp. In the 468 to 485VDC range. For me, 20 watts per 6L6GC is a good place. With tough 6L6GC or 7581A, you can easily go to 23-25 watts per tube. As long as the PSU is good (and you have one very good tranny), socket contacts are good, and the bias supply is rock steady --- you'll be good to go, for a long time.

Bet that speaker sounds really nice. How is the tone versus, say, a Vintage 30?

Thanks!

BMW2002Ti,

I only have Vintage 80 in my Trace Elliot combo, they preform pretty good and very loud (the amp is 160Watts).

The ET65's are completely different animal, with beautiful mellow and round tone with lovely tight bass. Before going for ET's I was considering G12C/S as suggested by nedorama (if my memory serves me well), but made this decision based on numerous reviews I read .. and no regrets here, these are awesome speakers, even not being fully broken in.

.

But instead of describing the speakers and the amp further I'll rather do an audio demo and post here, so you can hear for yourself (if the site rules are fine with that  .
How about that?

Sounds good. What software do you use to record?

Be interesting to compare the Pro Reverb to the Deluxe Reverb. 6L6GC versus the 6V6GT. That 6V6GT is quite a tube. Kinda step-child to the big 6L6GC brother. But, the tone is unmistakable.

Thanks!

Audacity, that's the only software I have at hand

Cheers

Just found this thread. I have a 1966 Pro Reverb and have just started biasing my own amps as well. I recently installed JJ 6L6GC and found 35ma to be right for my ears. Can still get some nice hair if chunked. Anything over 40 and I was getting a little too much compression and choking on my notes.
