Hello all again, been awhile.
I figured I would pose this question to all the great people that I've found here. I value the second hand advice.

So, I currently have a 1969 Fender Pro Reverb, Its a great amp but I am finding that for the places I play it is a bit loud.

I have been contemplating two main options.

Option 1:

Sell the Pro and get a 67' Deluxe Reverb (Got a line on one locally)

or

Option 2

Purchase a NEW Vox Ac15 Handwired with celestion blue AND keep the Pro Reverb.

Its hard to say what would be best. So let me know your thoughts, comments, suggestions, alterations. :D

"Option 3"......

Keep the Pro Reverb and buy the '67 Deluxe Reverb.

Rem, I'm kind of with Arjay. But, the Deluxe and the Vox are way different sonic animals. So, I'd ask you ... What lower watt sound are you after? And what guitar(s) and effects are you pushing it with ? Art

There's absolutely no sonic correlation between the two platforms.

If vintage Fender tone at lower volume is the objective then proceed down the food chain. The choices are pretty obvious -- Vibrolux Reverb, Deluxe Reverb, Princeton Reverb, and Champ/Vibrochamp/Bronco (at 6 watts, the latter three models may be a non sequitur for credible stage use).

Thanks for the replies.

As of now,the pro reverb is staying. after a few tube mods the tone has completely changed and is at a more reasonable level.

For sake I'll partake the mods.

V1 tube pulled (I use the V2 Vibrato reverb) prevents signal leaking

PI Tube (12at7) replaced with 12ax7 helped with volume, 12ax7 has a higher gain stage

12at7 as V2 preamp tube. Helped with the buzzy distortion

Thanks

remstar, you may find the 12AX7 in the phase inverter position may not have a long life. The PI of the Pro Reverb passes quite a bit more current than what a usual 12AX7 is used to seeing. 12AX7 usually have a measured 20-30VDC range of voltage across the cathodes. The 12AT7 usually 110 to 120VDC. Both tube types measured with 250-300VDC on the anode plates.

If the 12AX7 get noisy early or dies prematurely, you may want to try a 12AU7. This tube will drop the mu from 70 to 20, and handle this voltage (current).

My thoughts precisely.

The 12AU7 may not have sufficient gain to "light up" the output stage in a sonically-pleasing manner -- a 12AY7 may do better as a phase inverter.

I just can't get into Vox amps, and I really tried. They just sound 'crappy' to me.

So based on that opinion, I'd have to opt for #2, assuming #3 is not really an option.

But I see you've sorted it out with some changes to the original amp - good stuff!

Yeah, I'm witch you! Sure like the idea of having the real Fender toned amp, whatever size you need. Along with a substantial tube Vox, USA Badcat, or Matchless to cover all the bases. Kind of like, which guitar the piece of music needs. JMHO, Art
