I can almost get there with my 67 blackface bassman but it needs that extra Marshall tone kick.

http://youtu.be/lIWHlIhvt3Y

Gear:
Epiphone les paul 56 goldtop Seymour Duncan sp90-2 pickups
67 blackface bassman ab165 circuit.
Fender vibroking 2x12 Celestion v30
Wampler black 65 pedal
Boss od1

I can't always crank my amp is why I have the wampler black 65. I'm thinking of adding the wampler plextortion which copies the tone of a marshall or the wampler sovereign to give it that extra Marshall feel.
I can get the fender overdrive crunch, it's the solo tone that needs a extra boost. The boss overdrive does a good job of that, it just needs to be more marshall like. I'll probably go with mixing the black 65 with a plextortion.

I guess what I'm asking is has anyone had good results mixing Marshall pedals with a fender amp and still keep fender's sparkling chime?

I don't have the money or the room for that. I hear the Marshall gv-2 pedal is pretty good.

59 Bassman since that's what Marshall copied.

NR, not familiar with the use of Marshall pedals. But there are quite a few component changes that can thicken up the Bassman's bass channel. Short of rewiring the power tubes for EL 34's, the mods are non-invasive and easily reversed. I've had great results with my Bassman. Stratele, isn't "Tone Lizard's Voodoo Lounge" for Bassman amps, the place for NR to look at? I don't think it's a good idea for me to start on the mods. Just not computer savvy enough to lay it out in a reasonable format. Art

Decades ago I played my '66 Strat through a '67 Bassman, driving both channels simultaneously with a geranium-powered Vox Tone Bender. With the bass instrument channel's "DEEP" switch engaged, it got awfully close to the tone Clapton preferred on many of the Cream albums where his gear then was a Les Paul through a Marshall.

" Germanium-powered Vox Tone Bender "

Arjay,

I haven't seen one of these in years (if you are talking late 1960's-1970 vintage). Can you still get them? I don't even know if pure germanium chips are still being made.

Thanks!

Keeley's Fuzz Head pedal does a good job and is switchable between silicon and germanium transistors, and it plays nicely with other pedals, something my old Univox Super Fuzz never did.

They also make a dead on copy of the old Mosrite Fuzzrite if that is of interest...
http://robertkeeley.com/2012/01/custom- ... ecreation/

For my Fenders, I use several pedals to get different tones, YMMV.
Barber Direct Drive
Paul Cochrane Timmy
Keeley Fuzz Head
Keeley Katana Boost
Suhr Shiba Drive

Keeley-Modded TS9, but only like that on my 6V6 Princeton Reverb, not on my 6L6 amps. Go figure.

If I knew then what I know now, I would've started stockpiling NOS gear a helluva lot sooner!

Don't know much about gear! But, I know some of us geezers are very fortunate to be able to kick out the sounds, with what we have!!! Played a country-western gig last weekend. Just a side-man role. But, pulled off some decent Eldon Shamblin and Jerry Garcia background work. After the show, the band members and spectators said it sounded like I really got into it after the first set. No one said a thing about the guitars or amp. Makes me think, it's all in the playin' effort. JMHO Art

It really is. I don't care if I'm playing a Deluxe Reverb or a Dual Showman. When it's time to take the stage I'm gonna plug in my guitar, fire up some pedals, and wail. Get a good amp, get a good guitar, and learn to use them. The moment that the first set begins, all else becomes academic.

Arjay, academic was the deal. They handed me 25 pieces of sheet music, some were 3-4 pagers, two weeks before the show. One practice, with a six piece-three vocalist pro group. Not being the best sight reader and basically a R&B-Blues player, the intimidation factor was very real. Took the first apprehensive effort for the first set, to let me realize to trust my ears and fingers. "Don't Fence Me In" is a pretty cool piece of music !!! Art

For as long as you've been at this shtick (like many of us), I'm betting that you improvise "on the fly" with the best.

Rawk on!
