Joseph Walsh didn't seem to share your opinion.

When you listen to "Yer Album", "Rides Again", and "Thirds" by the James Gang, much of what you're hearing was played on a Telecaster through a '64 Vibroverb.

Haha, I knew that as soon as I said that one of you guys would call me out. I've got to try a vibroverb - I've never heard a bad thing about them.

I'm not "calling you out"......I merely present the facts as history records them.

You need to listen to the Master of the Telecaster...

Tele thru Quad Reverb! Aint nothing thin sounding about that tone...

As an adjunct, some of Jimi's tracks on "Are You Experienced" were laid down with a Telecaster and a Twin Reverb. Thus, it's difficult to pigeon-hole a guitar/amp combination as far as tone goes.

Class dismissed.

Maybe it's better to put "best" into specific needs/catagory.

Like: Practice amps (bedroom or man cave). Recording/Studio needs. Small bar. Bigger bar. Outdoor gig. Stadium. Small Church. Bigger Church. Cathedral. Saint Peter's Square.

Well, you get the idea.

By far, my favorite man cave amp is the Vibro-Champ...

Indeed. Walsh and Don Felder are the reason I moved to Fender amps and haven't moved again since.

Nice! I got a '78 Vibro Champ earlier this year. The speaker had a hole in it so I've replaced it with a Jensen RI, but eventually I'll source an original Jensen.

An "original Jensen" would not be original to a '78 Vibro Champ.

Back in the 70s and 80s I always wanted a Dual Showman with 15" JBL speakers and I always secretly wanted a Super Reverb.

I did get a 1969 Showman Reverb amp around 1975 with a Bandmaster cabinet with 15" Bass speakers. I still wouldn't mind having JBL speakers though.

I finally did get a Super Reverb too, this past July.

So, I mostly have my dream amps. :)

OEM 8-inch in the VC is prolly Oxford 8EV. Good site for checking out particulars of Fender (and other amps):

From 1965 until the amp was discontinued in 1980, I have never seen any other OEM speaker in a Champ/Vibrochamp/Bronco. And in any case, Fender was through with Jensen as a speaker vendor by 1967.
