Looking for a little info on some CTS speakers I found for sale. All I knowthey are CTS 12" speakers from 3rd week of 1972. Seller does not know wattage. They are in working order, no tears, and 8ohm. If any of you vintage guys may know a bit more about these, please chime in. I'd like to replace the Utah speakers in my Bandmaster cabinet, but if these are under powered, I'll pass on buying them.

Damn, I spent the better parts of two hours looking for info, you don't ask the easy ones do ya? Best I could come up with was they are 35 watt speakers.

But you could always get them and have them reconed to specs that would match what ya need.

Thanks Tony....I spent quite a while looking myself. First I emailed Arjay, then I posted here. Was hoping for higher wattage. I do appreciate your time there! Hmmmm...maybe an excuse to find a lower wattage amp...

Thanks for the link Bill...I'll check them out. I was hoping there was the info hidden in the codes, didn't realize the info would be so obscure.
Tony...wish my wife also enjoyed my thinking as much  ...at least she doesn't do more than this  when I bring home new gear...as long as I buy it with money from gigs, or sale of unwanted gear, or the occasional trade!

Arnold, you plan to use the CTS speakers with a dual 6L6GC driven Fender amp? My guess is the wattage handling will be close to the CTS 10-inch alnico speakers of the same era.

My dual 10-inchers sound just fine in the Vibrolux Reverb (around 36-40 watts).I wouldn't push them too much above 40 watts.

Hey Steve...I was hoping to use them in my Bandmaster cabinet to take place of the Utah...I think they are a bit under powered for that head. I wish they were 10", I would pick them up to replace the 2 Rola speakers in my SFSR. Still for $20...I may pick them up and save for a rainy day.

+1

They look suspiciously like OEM Sunn drivers, possibly from a 4 x 12 Sceptre cabinet.

Welcome back! I haven't made a decision if I want them or not. Seller did speculate they may have come from an Ampeg cabinet, other than that no info.

Ampeg is a possibility, as is Kustom -- they had a 50-watt 2 x 12 piggyback guitar amp during the era when those speakers were built.

BTW, what's the impedance of them?

Thay are 8 Ohm...any thoughts for $20.
If not much a step up from the Utah, I'll wait...prices of nice vintage JBL and Jensen getting a bit steep...but how do you put a price on tone?

If they were serviceable, I'd give twenty bucks for the pair.
