Dan,

You're welcome of course. There are a lot more folks on this forum that know everything about vintage Fender amps and are willing to help.

You should post up some photos of your amp. I'm sure someone will identify your schematic.

Thanks Jerry, if I post pics of it now it will make your eyes bleed. It doesn't have a grill frame much less the grill cloth. The speakers had some cracks, but about 3 years ago my niece, who was about 3-4 yrs. old at the time punched through two of the speakers.....
ARRRGGGHHHH! It looks hideous! But I will post before and after pics once I really get the ball rolling on it. I'm only going to be able to do some restoration here and there so it may take awhile, but I will get her going again. I'm pondering whether or not to re-wire the speaker wiring or keep it original.
Cheers!

Dan,

Post some pictures anyway. Everyone on here loves amp porn !

It doesn't matter if it takes you months to restore your amp, picture progress is always interesting. Starting off with a cosmetically bad looking amp and showing the improvements made is always an interesting read and many folks will offer suggestions as you go along.

Read the thread I started on my 1969 Super Reverb:

http://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=87447

Definitely sounds like you need the speakers re-coned.

I am going to make a new speaker wiring harness for my amp also. A lot cheaper than the ones on e-bay.

It is interesting that there are two threads concerning 1969 SF Super Reverb amps.

Keep us up to date on your progress.

Jerry

I hope that is something they keep
a steady inventory of. I don't have the 120.00
now but hope to before long. I wonder if
I should get the CTS speakers reckoned or put new ones
in. I'm trying not to detract from its worth . So I don't know
if different speakers or a non- Fender faceplate will
detract value. I'm such a newb. That faceplate does look
awsome!!!

Dan...definitely keep the CTS speakers and get them reconned! I have had two SR's one was a '72 SF and had alnico CTS's (Great Speaker) and the '65 BFSR I have now has CTS Ceramics and they are great too!

I needed to replace two of the speakers which were non original, so I searched ebay and it took a while but I found one, bought it, then three or four months later I found THREE more, all of the correct vintage and close enough in dates to nearly perfectly period correct. So I have a couple spares for it if need be. The big thing with finding speakers on ebay is patience...they are out there!

I copied this from someone else who posted it the forum.

Trouble posting pictures?

1. Create an account within a free image hoster (Photobucket, Flickr, ImageShack) and upload your photos there.

2. Once you've uploaded your pictures copy the URL address containing the uploaded media and paste it.

3. Drag the mouse pointer over the URL and click the Img button in the control panel at once; the tags will close automatically.

4. If you opt for a Photobucket account, just copy and paste the IMG code containing the tags.

Don't worry, my guess is we have all seen worse. Post a pic it might spark something to pass on we hadn't thought of!

+1

That '65 Showman I restored three summers ago was a basket case when I got it. It looks showroom-new now.

Looking at the SR AB763 circuit, never really saw this issue before. The first stage of the filtering off the GZ34/5AR4 is 35mfd/700VDC (2 x 70mfd) at 465VDC. No wonder those amps need good GZ34's. A 5U4GB can handle the extra capacitance better.

Maybe, this is why some Sovtek GZ34 suffer early failure.

The silverface front panels that TAD sells are not reproductions -- they're the real McCoy, genuine NOS OEM Fender parts. TAD has a limited inventory of these and when they're gone, they're gone FOREVER. The Super Reverb faceplate is a for a '68 model but would not look out of place on a '69 through '73 amp.
