I narrowed my options to Pro reverb B/F and Vibrolux reverb (vintage).

Vibrolux is ridiculously expensive (don't know why) and Pro looks like the way to go.

As the amp will be purchased in the US and taken down-under (230V) I'm planing on changing the current transformer immediately.

- Are there any implications to the sound/sound quality of the amp when the transformer is changed?

.. (and yes, no flaming, I'm not an electro-expert, nor I plan to became one, thanks)

My guess is the Pro Reverb will have a bigger tone than the VLR. Bigger iron, more hefty power supply filtering, and two 12-inch versus two 10-inch OEM speakers.

As for the PT, does it have a red switch in the back for multiple outlet VAC? I find that these trannies (that can handle multiple voltages) are about as tough as they come. If not, just be sure to replace the original PT with a comparable (be nice if it's the correct Schumacher) 120VAC, 50/60Hz PT.

None of the Pro's I've seen for sale have the Voltage switch, maybe some does have one..

I'm sure I will be able to get the matching PT as Pro's were imported to Australia back then and I was told if that's the case it will be possible to get the exact 230V match of the PT.

Anyone with '65-'67 Pro here to chime in a bit more about the amp, thanks.

First off, good choice. I don't have one, but have played through a few and I always thought of the Pro Reverbs as the Twin Reverbs Little Brother...not as powerful (can be a good thing as sometimes Twins can be too loud). Internals wise they may not be the same amp, but the 2x12 configuration, the 40-45 Watt output is half of a twin...hence the term.

Follow Beemers advice on replacing the tranny and you should be good to go. One word of caution, don't let loose of the original tranny, in case you ever want to sell it or it comes back to the USA.

Twin is a bit of an overkill (I have one), but don't really know what to do with all the power (no gig-ing at this time) and always wanted to have a Pro.

I have tried a few DR's, but always prefer the 2x12 configuration for the tone and the rest.

2x10 is even worse in my world ... something is always missing there .. you know what I mean.

No difference at all in sound, the secondaries are still the same voltage, even with the change in primary from 120 to 230.

Actually, I am a huge fan of 10 inch speakers....my best amp is a Vintage Black Face Super Reverb from 65! And I gigged steady in the eighties with a 2x10 Rivera Era Concert Amp...never let me down once and loved the tone!

Thanks;

maybe I'm asking to much but is there anyone in the US that makes corresponding 230V PT's?

Both Hammond (of Canada) and Mercury Magnetics of CA make 240VDC/50HZ PTs.

Contact Fender also, as they make a great deal of their amps for export with the 230V trannies, they might have a part number for you to locate one locally.

Nikola Tesla, first off, I like to thank you for AC current. :D  :D

The OEM part for the Export PT in your Pro Reverb is:

Schumacher part number 125P5DX.

Fender part number 022806.

Good hunting!

I have contacted Fender Australia .. not able to provide the part. In fact they recommended contacting the tech who can rewound the PT?!?!

Is it possible to re-wound the US PT to 230V specs??!?
