I've looked around and seen a number of different offerings, but figured this would be the best place to ask. Title says it all.

Thanks,

PD

I send my CTS alnico's out to a commercial shop and specify a ribbed-and-seamed cone with a 30-watt coil and no doping. I've no idea whose kit the techs use but they always come back sounding great and performing to my expectations.

And for the record, there are no "late 60's Super Six" amps -- the first of these models appeared for sale in late 1971.

Thanks for the info; would the place you are speaking of be located at 4507 E Independence Blvd, Charlotte, NC by chance? I hear this particular company is top notch.

Pardon the slip on the year; I get it confused with the Bandmaster we have. Memory is still a bit screwy from the TIA 5-6 weeks ago.

Thanks,

PD

I send my non-JBL work to a shop in Tucson. They've done top-notch jobs on my vintage CTS and Jensen speakers (haven't yet found an Oxford worthy of reconing).

If you specify precisely what you want, most competent shops can accommodate any special requests.

FTR, the speakers used in the Super Six Reverb are identical to those of the Super Reverb and a select few Vibrolux Reverb amps. They carry the Fender P/N of 064121.

There are no "5.2 ohms" speakers.

They are standard 8-ohm drivers, wired in a parallel-series configuration. And despite the markings below the output jack of the Super Six Reverb, these amps all used a standard Twin Reverb output tranny with a 4-ohm secondary. Cross-reference the part numbers listed for the two amps to confirm.

I don't mean to come across as obtuse in any way and don't take what I say with any ill intent:

Super Six Reverb

The Super Six Reverb is essentially a master volume Twin Reverb equipped with six Oxford 10L6 (or CTS 10" AlNiCo) speakers featuring 10"/5.2 ohms (8 ohms each in series-parallel) and 100 watts RMS (changed to 135W in 1977). Introduced in 1972, this silverface combo amplifier was discontinued in 1979.

I interpreted that as they were 5.2.

With the utmost humility,

PD

Eight ohms -- clearly marked on the schematic.

I don't specifically recollect seeing any Super Six's with the 10L6 Oxford's but I remember some showed up with Rola's and Pyle's towards the end of the amp's production run.

hmmmmmm. These are square shaped monkeys. I'll check the number on them and get back; it's at a friends house presently.

Thanks,

These are the CTS alnico 10's I referenced......

Image

They date to the 17th week of 1969. Later examples will be found with the "donut" style Fender decal affixed to the magnet shield.

There also exists a ceramic version which is somewhat rare. The frame is an identical stamping and they will be marked with the same 064121 Fender P/N -- most of them seemed to have been used in blackface Super Reverbs from late 1965 until early 1967. Unlikely that they'll be seen in a Super Six Reverb Amp but I mention it only to cover that eventuality should it occur.

Those CTS are my favorite vintage 10-inch alnico's for Fender 40 watt amps (dual 6L6GC), along with the Jensen P10Q's. I like the Weber 10A125 and 150's as replacement new issues.
