I'd check the cables first. Make sure they're fully seated into their respective jacks and that neither the jacks nor the plugs show evidence of surface corrosion. Check the tubes next if that doesn't cure the symptoms.

I was hoping you would chime in on this, thanx so much, just taking this further, if its not the above?....then what?...im asking this for future failures in other amps. Im not electric savvy, but I do know whats what and where... but smart enought to stay out of something I know nothing about. Thanks for direction

In that case I'd start checking tubes. And while my TV-7A/U tester was warming up I'd check the cables to and from the tank and the tank itself with a DVM for "shorts" and "opens". Across the reverb tank's input jack (shield to ground) you should see minimal impedance -- around .81 of an ohm. On the output side, around 81 ohms (these figures may vary to a degree, assuming you still have a vintage Gibbs/Hammond tank installed).

+1

Add to that, they're relatively easy to repair and virtually every part in the amp is still available. Not like the landfill fodder designed with an eye to planned obsolescence that most companies are building today.
