While F&Ts may last longer, they are not going to change the sound in my opinion. I have stuck with the supplied caps in both my Weber kits.

But you don't think they might be the cause of my problem?

The fact that they are Chinese made is not the cause of your problem. The fact that they might be bad could be the cause of your problem. You could get a bad cap from Sprague, F&T, or any other manufacturer. Are the odds better that a Sprague or F&T might be better? I don't know. Do what makes you feel comfortable. In any case, you should test the caps before concluding that they are the problem.

Drew, following Bluesky's train of thought... how old is the amp & when did this "motorboating" or "oscillation" issue start becoming a problem?

If it began right away... I'd double check all wiring and orientation of components in the circuit. Esp look at your ground points.

Keep the 6V6GT & GZ34 in the amp. Pull each 12AX7 one-at-a-time --- from the input tube to the phase inverter. Any change in the "oscillations?" This procedure will help isolate the cause. If pulling a tube stops the problem --- concentrate on wiring and components attached to that tube.

If the amp still oscillates with PI tube pulled. Try another rectifier. Still oscillates? Try another set of 6V6GT or that 6L6GC. Still a problem? Now, it's time to concentrate on the power supply and whatever feedback loop you may have in the amp.

Quite correct. I've completed it within a month or two. I noticed the oscillation the first time I played it loud.

JMHO Gents, Drew's power filter caps and dropping resistors are layed- out for the 5Y3. Wouldn't a GZ34 ask for a 20uf, 1K, 20uf, 18K, 20uf, 18K, 20uf, and appropriate plateload resistors?( that's just an appoximation) Yeah, as for the present filter caps, country of orgin does not determine their functionality. F&T's may be an insurance policy in the long run(if tested). But any component is fair game for failure. I'm still going with a 5Y3, balanced PI resistors, solid PI tube, matched power tubes, and solid power tube cathode resistor and cap!!! Art
