It's not in the amp...(although any fender tube amp is righteous!) Blues is in the fingers, mind and heart of the player, it's a connection to the vibrations of your soul. And those vibrations can be clean or distorted.

Or, try the new champ 600 re-issue (around $199 ) & crank it to 10.

Don't crank the gain up all the way!
set it so you get just enough "grunt "
and play hard to make it POP!!!

I like the Blues jr. but if I had money to spend I would get a Chicago Blues Box 18watt Kingston. The wife would not let me buy that one and she was mad enough about the AC30

The Fender Blues Jr is a great easy-to-find option...but if you have extra coin and the time to search out something else, try to find an old Fender Champ (1960s or 1970s tube amp; Fender has re-used the Champ name on several other amps as well).

The Blackface models are the most collectible, etc., but I had a Silverface model that absolutely ROCKED. I used it for both guitar and harp (harmonica to all you non-blues cats), and it always gave me a good tone. Unfortunately, I no longer own this amp; it fell victim to the Great Mortgage Payment Guitar & Amp Collection Massacre of 1995.

There are also Vibro-Champs out there, if you want Vibrato/Tremolo (whatever).

As far as pedals for bluesy tone, the Ibanez TS9 is great; the Boss Blues Driver is really good; I really like my Danelectro Daddy-O overdrive as well (three-band EQ).

Good Vibes To Y'all.

Man, sorry to hear abot the masacre. I had one myself, but it was the Damn this leg injury-I'll kill you expensive hospitals and doctors masacre in 2007. Guess if you want to keep your leg to use your pedals you have to pay the price :)
Cheers!

get on ebay and find yourself an old dano, silvertone, harmony or premier. invariably they will be handmade, class a, all tube amps. make sure you get one with a 12" speaker. so, you will have the 12", a lightweight cab, two 6v6's, a nice big transformer and a tube rectifier. let your amptech go over the thing, usually caps need changing and little else. vacuum tubes seem to last a good long time. these things love pedals. i personally love fulltone products-fulldrive II, OCD, clyde wah, etc, all awesome tone. and if you really want to take it to the next level, change the speaker from the low wattage, inefficient one in the cab to something sweet like a celestion 25 watt greenback ceramic or a weber 50 watt alnico blue. if you check out various boutique amps out there, you will notice that they are essentially trying to replicate these old amps, but with upgraded key parts....like speakers.

For OD, the Maxon OD-808 is the originial tube screamer, and IMO the best OD on the market.
