Yes...Worth $800 IF it was in working and excellent condition. If only one speaker is not working it is usually a speaker issue, not an amp issue.

These 4140's are usually very clean sounding amps, not much Marshall crunch to them...maybe why SRV used one. Not saying they have no crunch, just not much until you really crank it to 12!

Have him either replace the speaker or drop the price...your choice.

Mac, I would check each speaker individually(unwired) with a multi-meter. You're looking for 16 ohms or a bit lower. You could also use the 9 volt battery test on each speaker. If both tests are positive, I'd check the speaker wiring continuity and connections. Before running the amp, check the ohmage at the speaker plug, you're looking for 8 ohms or so(with both speakers connected). If you know which speaker is bad, disconnect it's wiring, completely, from the good speaker. Again check the ohmage at the speaker plug, for 16 ohms or a bit less. Be sure impedance selector is set to 8 ohms. You could now check the amp at modest levels for all functions. Of course, if you have a 8 ohm or 4 ohm cab, that could be used to check out the amp. Be sure to use the impedance selector correctly when subbing cabs. Art
