Got this from a buddy of mine who has stage 4 lung cancer and selling off his gear :(
We have traded gear for a few years now.

Its a 69 Princeton he has had for a few years, he bought it in the condition its in today.
Wrong baffle, wrong speaker, wrong name plate, missing "F" speaker cable cap.

However it is a very nice sounding non reverb Princeton.

Sure wish a had a template to make a new baffle that puts the correct 10" speaker in its proper place.

Not sure if it would have been drip edge or not ?

It does have the three prong cord installed and a new cap can.

Vibrato / Tremolo is kinda weak

Nice score...too bad about your buddy though. You don't need much of a template to move the speaker back to the center position...just pull that one out, measure for a new one, then measure from each edge to get the center for the new "hole" for the speaker. If you can handle the rewiring and caps, you can do this, and I bet Arjay knows where to get some of the drip edge in case you want to add it back?

Correct speaker would have been a Oxford by 69 IIRC...and they are not the best speaker in the world for sure. If you can find a Jensen C10R or a CTS alnico it would improve the sound a bunch

Cool amp, Chris!! And yeah, I'm sorry about your pal!!! Looks like a 12" speaker. Actually, I have a Weber alnico 12" in my Princeton Reverb clone. Most likely, a cap up-grade from those chocolate drop caps will bring the vib and entire amp into focus. Those years were good for the bean-counters, not for musicians. The main cap can needs to be in good shape(but you know that). I use the CP 30/20/20/20-525. Standby for Beemer's real-life info!! Art

Chris,

Nice amp. Sorry about friend. It's hard to get much vibrato out of a Princeton. Since it is driven by only 1/2 of a 12AX7. Like Art said, good new cap can, some quality coupling caps, & the the strongest 12AX7 you have--- will mend some of the injustice of that circuit.

Plus, the other 1/2 of that 12AX7 is a concertina phase splitter. The only concertina splitter in any Fender amp (except for a few woodies and tweeds, I believe).

A good quiet, strong 12AX7 works wonders for both the PI and the vibrato sections. The best I've tried? The 1970-80's Hungarian Tungsram ECC83. Its output puts NOS TFK's to shame.

Note the numbered metal tag on the top mica disc (circled in red)? Also, seen on anode plates. These are always Tunsgrams made. Maybe labeled Tesla, TFK, Philips, etc...

Thanks guys
Ya Beemer I have a few of those hungarian 12AX7's with the tags
So the ten is just centered in the baffle ? That makes for an easy fix ! Thanks again on that one.

The cap can was replaced around two years ago and it looks like all of the electrolytic caps on the board were swapped out also.

The 12" speaker in it now is a Texas heat from Eminence, I've wanted to check one of them out for a while.
I have that 1x10 cab The wife decorated a while back tht has a nice vintage 10" 8ohm in it.
I'll run a speaker cable of to it.

I would love to replace the drip edge !!! if anyone has a place to find the stuff.

Chris - sorry to hear about your friend. Seems we get to a certain age and suddenly we start losing the people around us. Its nice that you have the amp to remember him. Its a wonderful gift and I'm sure he could use the money.

Thanks Phansford
His words almost exactly.

He is still fighting and hoping for another year or even two.
For those of you who pray, his name is Larry

Thanks !

The home made baffle in it had what looked like a crack (cheap plywood), Sure enough it split in half when I pulled from the chassis.
Luckily I have some of the good cabinet grade stuff that is the correct size or closer to it out in the garage.
Now the really big question, Keep it a 12" baffle or go back to a 10" ?????
I have a Texas Heat and a Swamp Thang 12" right now and could have it up and running in a day.

I hooked it up to my 1X10 extension cab with a vintage 10" from an old Baldwin organ and it sounded better that the Texas heat in the cab did, however that muffled sound could have been due to the cracked in half 3/4 " cheap baffle.

I imagine a Weber 10F150 would sound pretty good here.

I run a Weber 10" California in my 1967 Princeton Reverb. It works great for medium gigs and band practice.

If you have 12" speakers on hand that you like, why not keep it a 12"? That would be my choice.

Chris...if you're going to go with a different 12, just make sure it fits BEFORE you make that cut for it in the new baffle...moving it over and centered may be why the one in there was moved to the side?

I just follow Arjay's advice, measure twice, measure again, test fit, then make your cut! Seemed to work very well when I redid the Bantams!

Yeah measure, measure, measure!!! My guy is 20"W X 16"H X 9"D. The baltic birch baffle centers the 12" Weber 30watt alnico. Chose to use a 12, only because I wanted a grab-n-go amp. In a loud situation, it can always be miked. Also, I have two other amps with 10's. Either way you decide to go, it will be a very cool sounding amp!!!! Art

Pretty sure at this point I'm going back to a 10" speaker
I'm going to take my sweet time and do my very best to preserve this as close to original specs as possible and play it every chance I get !!!!

Now which 10 to use ???????????????????

Probable a Weber 10F150 or 10F150T or 10F125 or WGS G10C OR ?????
