Official Fender Blackface Twin Reverb Extension Cabinet
Does anybody own one? Has anyone seen one? Do they even exist?

I've read in a couple of places that they were produced but there isn't any information on them or any pictures. Just wondering if anyone has come across one? It makes sense that they produced one, with the option for an ext. cab on the back.

If so, what specs. do they have (1x12, 2x12, 1x15)? What speakers were used? Do they look like the Deluxe reverb extension cab?

Thanks

The only stand-alone extension cabs to be made during the blackface era for which I'm aware of are the 1 x 12 and 1 x 15 enclosures. The former resembled a Deluxe or Deluxe Reverb amp while the latter shared its dimensions with the Pro Amp. Both are pictured in the 1964/65 full-color catalog.

Ah okay, thanks. I found a 1 x 15 1966 Blackface Extension Cab in a vintage guitar shop but it was being advertised as a blackface fender twin ext. I was looking at buying it together with a 1965 Blackface Twin Reverb. It makes sense that its the 1x15 you're talking about because height wise it was the same a the twin but an inch either side short on the width.

It had a Jensen 15"... can't remember what model, though. It definitely seemed all original and looked exactly like the 1x12 ext. only bigger. It was in really good condition as well. Together with the Twin it sounded really awesome. Just wondering if its worth looking into getting them together? Do you think considering how rare the cabinets are, it won't matter too much that they aren't matching (i.e. in the way it's suppose to be matched with the Pro Amp)

The dimensions for the 1 x 15 enclosure are 24"W x 20"H x 9.5"D. Most would've come factory equipped with either the Jensen C15N or the Oxford 15M6 although I've heard reports of the ceramic CTS speaker also being installed. I have an all-original '64 Pro Amp with the C15N and it sounds heavenly. Assuming presentable cosmetics and a reasonable price, I think such a cab would be a smart buy. With its 8-ohm impedance, it could be used with virtually any Fender amp.

Beaver Bottoms, Newell and others online will be happy to build you an extension cab for your twin to the same dimensions and your choice of coverings/grillcloth. I have a Newell cab for my bandmaster (picture in sig) and was very happy with his work.

Although, never thought there was a need for an extension cab for a Twin Reverb...

I've used extension cabs to put speakers on the opposite side of the stage from me for the benefit of my bandmates. Another way to use them is to keep the amp pointed towards you as a monitor, and point the cab towards the audience.

But yeah, I can't see the point in stacking them like that except to have an impressive looking 'wall' behind you.

Wow...yeah, in the late '60's I played organ through a silverface Pro-Reveb on top of a matching Bandmaster speaker cab with a Fender Vibatone (with a JBL 12) to the side... man, I wish I still had that setup!

Was it the infamous "red Farfisa" or a Vox?
