Can't remember the last time, we discussed this subject. So what the heck! This is just my personal preference and kindling wood. Like carbon comp for the signal path in reasonably low temp apps. Metal oxide for higher temp(socket-mounted screen resistors & power supply apps). Wire wound or metal oxide for 5-10watt apps(power tube cathode & power supply). Carbon film and metal film are useful when an accurate- steady voltage drop is desired. They are are also better suited to more humid conditions and seem to have less noise. Art

Solid data, Art.

Just be sure not to "upgrade" the wattage specs, especially in critical HV applications. It's tempting, yeah, but Leo chose those values for very sound engineering reasons.

Art,

Depends on which part of the amp the resistors work. WW and flameproof in power rails and output section. Metal Oxide in bias supply. Carbon comp (for vintage tone) where signal passes.

Not a hard-&-fast rule. Not for all amps. Empirical testing is a must.
