Picked up a 2x15 cabinet today I plan to use with my '67 bassman. Sadly missing 1 speaker, but the condition was very clean. Cabinet measures 45x30x12, no date stamp inside the box like on my 2x12. Not much cleanup needed. happy to now have a cabinet for the Bassman, and not have to swap out with the Bandmaster head with the 2x12 cab...unless I want to. Now to find that missing speaker.

A.L....Nice score there, fine looking cab in pretty fine shape. So what kind of speaker you going to put into it?

If you are looking for some early break up, a couple of Jensen Concert 15s will sound nice. The one I got from Arjay that went into my 69 Bantam has a nice breakup to it...great sound and some nice grind to it.

Enjoy the search!

+1

Based on my observations, the cab is a Dual Showman Reverb made prior to 1971. The original speakers would've been a pair of JBL D130F's. The current occupant is an alnico Eminence from 1969, likely a "transplant" from a Sunn or Ampeg amp.

Thanks Tony...Arjay recommended a couple different speakers, luckily I have you guys words to go by, as there aren't very many ways to try out 2x15 guitar cabs. I was almost considering modifying to 2x12, but at least for now I'm going to leave it a 2x15. I've always thought of 15's as bass drivers, but thats why we post here isn't it? I do like the idea of the early breakup, but also would like a bit of clean headroom, that takes my pedal rig well. Is the Alnico speaker inside any good for guitar, or more of a bass driver. If not a good guitar driver, I will probably put it on the market, or use for trade bait. Either way I'm happy to get a nice clean cabinet for a decent price.

You'll have to actually audition that Eminence driver to see if it's voiced for guitar or bass. And it will not sound as intended with that huge gaping hole in the baffle board where another speaker belongs -- it may not sound altogether bad though.

I always thought of 15s that way too, until I started researching other Fender amps. And then when Arjay suggested the single 15 for the Bantam, I thought why NOT try it, and sure enough I love it, great speaker.

The Jensen 15 in the Bantam does take pedals well, but it does break up early, so if you are looking for clean headroom, might go with something like a JBL! I am sure Arjay has a line on a couple of them

I'll take any advice I can get, mostly I always though of 15's for bass, pa, or those boom boom cars you hear at the traffic lights!
