So I was going over my '67 bandmaster because I noticed a significant difference in tone from the normal channel to the vibrato channel. For some reason the normal channel sounded fuller and warmer with more bass, the vibrato channel sounded brighter with less bass. At first I thought it was the pre amp tubes but after swapping V1 and V2 I found that it didn't make a difference. I proceeded to take the chassis out and take a look at the internal components and found that the vibrato channel had .022uf caps for both the bass and treble tone circuit as well as the coupling cap. I'm thinking that this is why the two channels are voiced differently. Is it possible that this was done intentionally to get different voicings for each channel? Or maybe this was what the tech had lying around when it was worked on. Luckily I have a few old stock paktrons that I'm going to throw in there for the time being. I really do prefer the original values as the normal channel sounds better to me.

So Cal, the .02's in the tone stack is a Ken Fischer suggestion, to achieve a more balanced- guitar friendly tone. The basic Fender .1-.047 stack can seem like a high low tone, to some folks. It's a subtle difference and very subjective!!! I use PIO .022's in both channels of my '67 Band Master, with great results. In my Bogus Bassman, I run PIO .022's in the Bass channel and PIO .1-.047 in the normal channel. It's just a personal preference. Art

So Cal, just to let you know; The B' Master is not stock. It has Victoria '59 Bassman X-Formers and a tube rectifier. The normal channel has a 250uf-820 ohm bypass cap and resistor for a little more depth. The PI feed cap is also a .022uf.Together with a RCA 7025(V1), an early iteration(balanced) GE 12AT7 phase inverter, Black Plate 6L6GC power tubes, and a Lindy Fralin vintage pup Strat- the sound can just about approach an acoustic dimension. Great for certain applications! Guess I'm gettin' at the possibilties with a two channel amp. Art

Art,
Thanks for the heads up. I wasn't aware of the Ken Fisher mods, I think I'll look into that.
I agree with you about tone being subjective 100%. For me, at least, I prefer a slightly fatter warmer tone and the vibrato channel isn't doing it for me. I'm gonna have to think about this for a while now. Leave it alone or revert to original values? I guess for now I can just use the normal channel since I have reverb and trem coverd on my pedal board.
Thanks again,
Abe

~~~Update~~~
So I went ahead swapped out the .022's with stock values. I'm much happier now. It wasn't a huge difference but one none the less. Thanks to all who contributed with their knowledge.
Jupiter yellow caps are the best. They're around $6 bucks, but well worth it. I've rebuilt two amps-69' Princeton and 73' Twin that both had mallory 150 and Sprague 715's installed as upgrades to the Paktrons. What some techs will do?!
I had been looking at the jupiters, in particular the red one. Do you have any experience with the reds? How do they compare to the Yellows?
Thanks.
