Looking for opinions on this. The '83 Concert I have is a great amp, but the 1x12 doesn't cut it for what I am doing. I was thinking was maybe I can modify the 1x12 cabinet into a 2x10. Any thoughts anyone? This amp is currently original except speaker was upgraded long ago (as most were). The foot pedal cable is pretty rough, but the amp is otherwise in good shape and definitely screams. I made a cabinet for the amp head, so I can gig with larger speaker cabinets. Currently using:
- '65 Bassman cab w/2x12 Scoprion Plus
- Carvin Legacy 2x12 w/greenbacks

Get a pretty wicked sound when set them on opposite sides of the stage, but I was thinkning about the 2x10 option for giggles as the saying goes. Just looking to see if i will screw the resale value of the amp completely or just partially :) and if there are any gotchas. I am pretty sure the 1x12 and 2x10 cabinets are the same dimensions.

Any feedback is appreciated -
Peace

78Deluxe...Not impossible, but it would require a new cabinet. The way the cabinet of the Concert Series (and all Fender amps of the time) were constructed have a fixed baffle, i.e., not removable without destroying the cabinet. I own a 2x10 Concert from 84 in mint condition and it was my main gigging amp for several years. They are sturdy, great sounding amps.

You could have a new cabinet made with a removable baffle (i.e., screwed in as in vintage amps) and have or make a 2x10 baffle. I think it was around '70 when the construction changed from a removable baffle to the fixed one. Most likely the corporate suits of CBS seeing it as a way to save money.

Correct. 1970 saw the last of Fender finger-joined pine-plank cabinets, at least until the advent of some, but not all, of the re-issues.

Thanks both for the replies. I may just make a 2x10 cabinet, and see what happens with that. Since i already have the amp in its own head, not that big a deal to do.

thanks again -

peace
